Sektori’s solo developer can finally pay themselves a salary after Nintendo Switch 2 success
“Thank you everyone who’s jumped aboard!”

Last week’s Nintendo Switch 2 release of Sektori, a brilliant twin-stick shooter that’s a lot like Geometry Wars, has finally met with enough success that the game’s solo creator has been able to pay themselves a living wage.
Sektori creator Kimmo Lahtinen – a former 13-year veteran of Saros and Returnal studio Housemarque – revealed back in January, after the game’s PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox release, that they’d only just managed to recoup indirect costs and overheads incurred. “But that still leaves me with zero salary for 4.5 years,” Lahntinen wrote on Bluesky. “You can probably count how many sales a minimum salary for that long takes. It’s a LOT.”
Today, Lahtinen provided a welcome update. “I’m happy to now report that with the Sektori Switch 2 launch, I’ve pretty much recouped a living salary for myself too. Total sales are at about 30,000. The Switch 2 launch has been very well received, so thank you everyone who’s jumped aboard!”
Sektori was released on Switch 2 last Thursday, 14th May, several months after its 18th November 2026 original release on PC, PlayStation and Xbox Series X/S. The game takes heavy inspiration from Bizarre Creations’ beloved arcade blaster Geometry Wars, giving you control of a small, simply shaped ship that you must move around enclosed arenas while avoiding and blasting a relentless, never-ending wave of colourful enemies. The entire game – even the menus – pulses to the sound of a driving electro house and borderline techno beat.
It’s great, and it’s even better when it starts to break apart from Geometry Wars and introduce its own ideas about power upgrades, boss encounters, and varying game modes. Chris liked it so much he urged everyone to “drop everything and play Sektori” in an impressions piece, and I fully support his sentiment, unless of course you’re holding a tray of food, in which case it could get messy.
Good news about a good game. The week is off to a good start.
