Everything has pointed to the Golden State Warriors making major changes ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season. After a fourth straight year without a Western Conference Finals appearance and having missed the playoffs entirely in two of the past three seasons, change was coming for the Bay Area franchise.
That left everyone’s future up in the air, even the legendary Stephen Curry. No one is completely sure what lies ahead for Curry just yet, and even more ambiguous is Draymond Green‘s role with the team going forward. It also seemed like head coach Steve Kerr might be set to move on after 12 seasons at the helm. But that’s not happening after all.
Steve Kerr will return to Golden State Warriors on new two-year deal
On Saturday, Kerr’s sports agency, Priority Sports, confirmed that the head coach and the Warriors have agreed on a new two-year contract to keep him with the franchise.
It’s huge news for Curry, who very well might have decided to move on if Kerr did the same. Now, he may be more incentivized to stay, as Curry and Kerr have developed an incredible bond over the years.
While Kerr also has a strong relationship with Green, the forward simply hasn’t made as much of an impact as Curry in recent seasons. Green may still return, and Kerr will likely push to keep him on the roster, but it’s possible the head coach and Curry will have plenty of new faces in the locker room next season.
