The fifth and final season of the acclaimed comedy-drama will debut in the UK on Friday June 26, streaming exclusively on Disney+ at launch. All eight episodes will be available to stream at debut, meaning fans won’t have to wait for week-to-week viewing to see the show’s conclusion.

The fifth season will pick up the morning after Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), and Natalie ‘Sugar’ Berzatto (Abby Elliott) discover that Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) has quit the food industry, leaving the future of the restaurant in their hands.

Per Radio Times, an official synopsis teases that they will reckon with “no money, the threat of a sale, and a torrential storm” as they band together with the rest of the team to pull off one final service and aim at getting a coveted Michelin star.

The series also stars Matty Matheson, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, with Ricky Staffieri, Oliver Platt, Will Poulter, and Jamie Lee Curtis appearing in recurring roles.

When we spoke to Boyce, who plays pastry chef Marcus in the show, he said his involvement in the show served as a lesson for trusting his own ability. “As the seasons go on, [show creator Christopher Storer] will ask me to do more, and things that I might be hesitant to do,” he said back in 2024.

“The show started with a huge loss and in season three it’s Marcus’ turn to experience that,” Boyce said of season two episode Honeydew, which focused entirely on him. “I think Marcus is a little more resilient. He’s always been the level-headed one. He processes things differently.”

Confirmation of the final season’s premiere date follows the series surprise dropping a new prequel episode earlier this week.

Titled ‘Gary’, it stars show regulars Jon Bernthal (Mikey) and Moss-Bachrach’s Richie, and follows them on a work trip that took place before Mikey’s death, which sets up the events of the first season of the show.

The Bear’s fourth season was released last year, with NME’s four star review concluding: “Like Carmy himself, The Bear’s fourth season returns bruised but improved. It may not be a return to its early greatness but this batch of slick, heartfelt episodes proves the show is still capable of delivering some delicious drama.”

Then, back in March, it was confirmed that the fifth season of The Bear will be the last, following star Jamie Lee Curtis hinting at the show’s conclusion in a post on Instagram.
