The night before, fans will be able to head to cinemas to watch the movie at cinema chains Regal, AMC, B&B, Marcus, Cineplex, Cinema West, Cinepolis and Regency locations in the U.S. and Canada. As of yet, no UK screenings have been announced.

4DX technology allows viewers to watch films with moving and vibrating seats, as well as wind, light, and weather effects. They are a regular fixture for the biggest blockbusters as a rival to other specialised formats such as IMAX.

The show’s official X (formerly Twitter) account promised: “In two weeks, we’re going out with a bang. Literally, because ya might vibrate watchin’ the series finale in 4DX.”

The Boys is the latest in a number of TV shows to air special episodes in cinemas. Game Of Thrones, Stranger Things, and The Pitt have all aired episodes on the big screen, either to mark the beginning of a season or to celebrate the finale. These special events have been popular with fans, and in the case of The Boys offers a chance to catch the episode hours before it lands on streaming.

NME’s five-star review of the first six episodes of season five said that the show “avoids the traps that most final seasons stumble into by chasing a clear endgame, instead of trying to constantly subvert expectations. Funny, crass and devastatingly poignant, those hoping for a suitable send-off will get the bloody masterpiece they were searching for.”

Recently, fans criticised the cancellation of The Boys spin-off, Gen V, with one viewer calling it “the most Netflix thing Prime has ever done”.
