In recent days, Jürgen Klopp’s name has surfaced in the debate over the list of candidates to become Real Madrid’s next head coach. However, the German’s working methods appear to clash with the club’s current environment, where players seem to hold more sway than the coach.

That is what Oliver Kahn, former Bayern Munich and Germany goalkeeper, reflected on — and he seems convinced that Klopp would be a very difficult fit for Real Madrid.

“I don’t know if I would do that if I were Jürgen Klopp. Do Real Madrid and Jürgen Klopp really fit together? If you analyze it more deeply: Jürgen is someone who likes to develop, to build something. He also works with a clearly defined system,” Kahn recalled in his role as a football analyst on Sky Germany.

A repeat of the Xabi Alonso case?

“Real Madrid are something completely different. Real Madrid are a group of individuals — a group of superstars who strongly resist having any concept imposed on them. We saw that with Xabi Alonso,” he added.

“It’s a question of whether the coach commands respect, knows how to find a common language with the players, and can work with the stars to convince them of the need for the system he wants to implement,” Kahn said.

In the past, Kahn has also suggested that Jürgen Klopp may soon feel the need to return to the dugout and leave his executive role at Red Bull.

“I don’t know if he’ll stay in that position for too long because, the way I see it, he’s a coach who belongs on the touchline — pure adrenaline. We’ll see if he feels fulfilled there,” he explained.
