Alex Marquez wins the 2026 Spanish MotoGP at Jerez as Marc Marquez crashes out early.

The Gresini rider Alex Marquez, who crashed from the lead when a downpour arrived in Saturday’s Sprint, got his revenge with a dominant display to celebrate back-to-back home Spanish GP victories.

Alex’s victory also ended Marco Bezzecchi’s run of five grand prix wins in a row, stretching back to Portimao 2025.

Sprint winner Marc Marquez took the early lead from pole but was overtaken by brother and pre-race favourite Alex on lap 2.

The factory Ducati star’s day got much worse when he lost the front through the 200km/h Turn 11 right-hander, fortunately walking away.

That accident left Alex Marquez leading from Bezzecchi, with Fabio di Giannantonio passing the other factory Aprilia of a fast-starting Jorge Martin (who lined up tenth after a grid penalty) for third.

Bezzecchi, whose record 121 consecutive laps in the GP race lead finally ended, initially kept Alex Marquez in range. But the Italian began to fade by the middle stages and spent the remainder of the grand prix keeping di Giannantonio at bay.

After Marc Marquez’s exit, team-mate Pecco Bagnaia also failed to finish – due to a technical issue – after fighting back from a poor start to the top ten.

Johann Zarco, who put up a combative defence from second on the grid in the Sprint, settled into an early fifth before losing out to the Aprilias of Ai Ogura and Raul Fernandez late on.

Tech3’s Enea Bastianini was the leading KTM in eighth with Fabio Quartararo the top Yamaha, albeit in just 14th.

The Frenchman spent the closing laps holding off Joan Mir despite the HRC rider serving two long laps for failing to respect back-and-orange flags in final practice.

Pramac Yamaha’s Toprak Razgatlioglu completed a single long lap for causing a Sprint accident with Lorenzo Savadori.

All riders chose medium compound tyres, front and rear.

Test riders Augusto Fernandez (Yamaha) and Lorenzo Savadori (Aprilia) were making their first wild-card appearances of the season.

Tech3’s Maverick Vinales was absent following shoulder surgery.

An official MotoGP test will be held at Jerez on Monday.

Alex Marquez underlines his pre-race favourite status by leading warm-up for the 2026 Spanish MotoGP at Jerez.

After Saturday’s rain, dry and sunny conditions greeted riders for the ten-minute warm-up.

Defending Spanish GP winner Alex Marquez was leading Saturday’s Sprint when rain arrived, later crashing from the lead, but was again labelled as the Sunday favourite by brother and Sprint winner Marc.

Alex finished warm-up a fraction ahead of wet pole qualifier and reigning champion Marc Marquez, with Fabio di Giannantonio completing an all-Ducati top three.

Title leader Marco Bezzecchi and fellow Aprilia rider Raul Fernandez completed the top five, followed by KTM’s Enea Bastianini.

Medium tyres front and rear were chosen by most riders this morning.

Joan Mir has a double long lap penalty to serve in the grand prix, for failing to respect back-and-orange flags in final practice.

Toprak Razgatlioglu has a single long lap for causing a Sprint accident with Lorenzo Savadori.

Title leaders Marco Bezzecchi, Jorge Martin and Pedro Acosta all failed to score in Saturday’s chaotic Sprint.

Bezzecchi will be chasing his sixth grand prix victory in a row this afternoon, a run that began at Portimao in late 2025, and has also led the last 121 GP laps in a row.

Team-mate Martin has a three-place grid penalty, relegating the Spaniard to tenth on the grid.

Test riders Augusto Fernandez (Yamaha) and Savadori (Aprilia) are making their first wild-card appearances of the season.

Tech3’s Maverick Vinales is absent following shoulder surgery and has not been replaced.

An official test will be held at Jerez on Monday.
