Joan Mir handed a penalty for Sunday’s Spanish MotoGP at Jerez.
Joan Mir has been penalised for “not respecting” black-and-orange flags during final practice for the Spanish MotoGP at Jerez.
The HRC rider rejoined the track with visible bodywork damage after crashing in the wet conditions (pictured).
He was then given the black flag with orange disk, which ‘informs the rider that their motorcycle has mechanical problems likely to endanger themselves or others, and that they must immediately leave the track.’
However, Mir continued all the way back to the pits.
‘Riders must obey the flag signals, the light signals, and the boards which convey instructions, including dashboard messages from Race Direction,” added the penalty explanation from the FIM MotoGP Stewards.
As a result, Mir has been handed a double long lap penalty for Sunday’s Spanish MotoGP, which he will start from 14th on the grid.
Mir becomes the second rider with a penalty to serve on Sunday, with Jorge Martin given a three-place grid drop for riding slowly and disturbing Alex Marquez at the end of Friday practice.
