Marco Bezzecchi faces “new beginning” as he warns of “tough” Jerez MotoGP
Marco Bezzecchi is cautious about his hopes of extending his championship lead at Jerez
Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi believes the MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix represents a “new beginning” in the 2026 season, as he warns of a “tough” weekend.
The Italian comes into this weekend’s Jerez round four points clear of his Aprilia team-mate Jorge Martin in the championship, after a dominant start to the campaign for the Noale brand.
Aprilia and Marco Bezzecchi have won all three grands prix so far, with the latter now on a streak of five successive Sunday wins and a total of 121 laps led.
The return to Jerez has been seen by some as a reset for the championship, though Marc Marquez poured cold water on this theory earlier on Thursday.
Asked about Aprilia maintaining its dominance at Jerez, Bezzecchi said: “I feel good. I feel happy to be back in Europe, especially here in Jerez, which is a wonderful place, a wonderful track.
“So, I’m very, very happy overall. So, I can’t wait to ride the bike; that’s even better.
“Well, we all hope from the box and the factory in Noale.
“But, it’s like a new beginning. We had a decent break. Everyone had the time to work on every aspect, so the riders and also the manufacturers.
“So, it will be a tough weekend. We will try our best to start in the best way possible.”
Bezzecchi backed Ducati to offer a stiff challenge this weekend, though noted that the short layout at Jerez means everything will be closer.
“Well, Marc and Alex, but all the others are super strong, also DiGia, Pecco, Pedro is super competitive,” he added.
“Here is a track where the gaps between the riders are always super small and the races are always tough because you have to manage the tyres a lot.
“So, it will be tough, it will be a tough weekend. Hopefully, we can have a good race together with my bike, but we will see.”
While the RS-GP has held a clear advantage at the start of the 2026 season, Bezzecchi has refused to be drawn into bike comparisons.
“I have no idea,” he said.
“It’s difficult for me to compare with the other bikes.
“I ride only the Aprilia, so I don’t know.
“For sure, for me, for my team, for my part of the garage, is very good and I feel wonderful with them. But that’s a question I have no idea how to answer.”
