Marc Marquez “made the most” of MotoGP break: “I can’t wait…”
Marc Marquez says he “made the most” of the extended MotoGP break, “can’t wait to get back at work”.
At a circuit where he suffered a career-changing arm injury and early comeback in 2020, Marc Marquez’s fitness will again be under the spotlight at Jerez this weekend.
While Ducati has been playing catch-up against Aprilia in the opening rounds, the reigning MotoGP champion is still suffering with a shoulder injury sustained at Mandalika last October.
“The bike is critical, but so am I,” Marquez told his team at COTA. “I’m struggling.”
He later explained: “In the first laps when the tyres are new, the bike becomes more aggressive, and I can’t ride well at the moment.
“It looks like I get used to being in a position, not a natural position, on the bike, and I’m just riding.
“Still, I’m fast, but I cannot make the difference.
“Especially I want to do a step in myself, more than in the bike.”
Marquez says he has “made the most” of the extended break, caused by the postponement of Qatar, to work on his recovery ahead of Jerez.
The #93 celebrated a home Sprint win at the circuit last season, but made an early mistake in the grand prix, won by younger brother Alex.
Marc returns just fifth in the world championship and is still chasing a first grand prix podium of the year, but he also has one eye on Ducati updates during Monday’s vital post-race test.
“A three-week break that I made the most of to recover for the first European race of the season and the first home Grand Prix just around the corner,” Marquez said.
“I’m happy; Jerez is a track I like, historic, complete, and where there will be lots of fans.
“Winning the Sprint here last year was special, a unique feeling.
“I can’t wait to get back at work, especially in preparation for Monday’s test”.
If Marc Marquez wins on Sunday, it will be his first Jerez Grand Prix victory since 2019.
