Escentric Molecules has always been about challenging the norms of perfumery. Co-founded by Geza Schoen, a perfumer who was more interested in pushing boundaries than following trends, the brand’s philosophy centers around creating scents that feel personal and unique. Schoen’s love for the science of scent led to the brand’s focus on a single aroma molecule, Iso E Super: a synthetic compound that was created in 1973. Initially used discreetly in the industry, Schoen saw its potential and began experimenting with it in high concentrations, which eventually led to the birth of Escentric Molecules.

Right off the bat, Cologne One hits you with that sharp, sparkling feeling you get from a gin and tonic. “With a scent like Cologne One, it’s more about what you leave out than what you put in,” Geza Schoen explains. The notes are citrusy: lime, lemon, and bergamot, mixed with juniper for that fresh, herbal punch. But its zestiness isn’t the only thing it has going for it: there’s a subtle warmth from ginger that adds a bit of depth, and a cool cucumber note that keeps it feeling clean and crisp. 

With a particularly high 15% concentration of fragrance, Cologne One has got staying power without the heavy-handedness that typically comes with strong scents. The heart remains understated, which is part of its charm. With Iso E Super at its core, the fragrance delivers the same signature freshness that made Molecule 01 a modern-day phenomenon and a fan favorite, but with a refreshing new take that’s perfect for the warmer months. Gender-neutral and minimalistic, the dry down features Iso E Super, Ambroxan, and a touch of musk, leaving a clean, lingering freshness.

This new release continues the legacy of Escentric Molecules, which first captivated the fragrance world with the launch of Molecule 01 in 2006. Known for its unique, pheromone-like effect, Molecule 01 caused a sensation, with wearers being stopped on the street to ask what they were wearing, and the scent selling out instantly upon release.
