MotoGP championship leader Marco Bezzecchi has joked he’ll “put the wall” up in the Aprilia garage, as the threat from team-mate Jorge Martin in 2026 grows.

Marco Bezzecchi has won all three grands prix run so far in 2026 and has not been headed on a Sunday since Portugal last year, which totals 121 laps.

But he is only four points clear in the standings ahead of this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix, with team-mate Jorge Martin scoring back-to-back podiums in Brazil and the USA, as well as a sprint victory at COTA.

After the Austin weekend, Martin noted that he will copy more of what Bezzecchi does with the RS-GP to get on level terms.

Speaking with Gazzetta dello Sport, Bezzecchi joked that he’ll now put a wall up in the Aprilia garage to stem the flow of information.

“So, now I’ll put the wall in the box,” he said. “No, I’m kidding, of course. On the one hand, I’m pleased; it means I did a decent job.

“But since he’s also really good, maybe I’ll copy him too.”

Bezzecchi is referencing an infamous episode in 2008 when his mentor Valentino Rossi had a wall erected in the Yamaha garage.

Ostensibly, this was to keep tyre secrets from changing sides, as Rossi and new team-mate Jorge Lorenzo ran different suppliers that year.

However, the wall remained in 2009 when Bridgestone became the sole supplier for the grid.

Bezzecchi’s 121 grand prix laps led is a new record in MotoGP, and comes as his Sunday win streak extends to five.

Reflecting on it, he added: “Incredible, huh? I only realised it when everyone else wrote about it.

“And then I started thinking about it: it’s a big deal, a great satisfaction.

“Not for now [that this will be a record beaten]. We hope to do at least another 20 or 30 laps in the lead.

“It will be tough. But I’ll try.”
