Rescuers evacuate hundreds after snowstorm hits Russia’s Far East
Dozens of vehicles were rescued from deep snowdrifts in Zabaikalsky Krai, where over 250 people were taken to shelters after a rare April snowstorm.
Dozens of cars and buses became stuck in deep snowdrifts on a highway in Zabaikalsky Krai after a heavy snowstorm on Monday. Rescue teams worked through the day to clear the route, digging out vehicles and towing them to safety.
The Russian Emergency Ministry said more than 250 people, including 28 children, were moved to temporary shelters.
April snow is common in the region, but storms of this strength are less frequent. Officials warned that more snowfall is likely on Tuesday, which could slow travel again. Conditions are expected to ease later in the week as temperatures rise. For now, crews remain on standby along key routes, while drivers have been urged to delay journeys and monitor local updates.
