Kacey Musgraves is headed back to the valley. The singer teased on Tuesday (April 14) that she will be returning to the Coachella Festival this weekend for the first time since 2019. The festival revealed the lineup poster for the upcoming second weekend of this year’s event, with Musgraves slipping into the same early Saturday afternoon (April 18) slot (3:00-3:50) on the Mojave stage that Jack White was added to at the last minute before weekend one.

“Somewhere on the way to ★ 𝑪𝒐𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒂 ★,” Musgraves wrote on Instagram on Tuesday in a post cued to her single “Middle of Nowhere” that featured a subtle plug for her upcoming seventh studio album (May 1) via a flipbook-like image of a bull running on a highway retaining wall, ending with the name of the LP.

Musgraves is gearing up to release the follow-up to 2024’s Deeper Well, so far releasing the single “Dry Spell” from the collection slated to feature songwriting collaboration with Luke Laird, Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne and Brandy Clark, as well as collaborations with Willie Nelson, Miranda Lambert and Billy Strings.

“The bulk of this record was made during the longest single period of my life”, Musgraves said in a statement announcing the LP. “I found that for the first time, it actually felt incredible being alone and existing in a space not defined by anyone else. I became fascinated with the concept of liminal space, both geographical and emotional. We don’t linger in these transitional, empty spaces long enough and rush to define where or whatever is next.”

On the same day she was added to Coachella, Musgraves also playfully added to the river of parody slop flooding your feeds with her own AI-generated Dr. Jesus photo mocking Donald Trump’s since-deleted, much-criticized AI image in which the president of the United States depicted himself as a Christ-like figure healing a man with his magic touch. In Musgraves’ version, though, the patron saint of country music, Dolly Parton, was swapped in as the divine healer, with Musgaves portraying the patient.

Trump sparked widespread condemnation for the blasphemous photo, which he posted on the same day that he launched an unprecedented attack on Pope Leo XIV, lambasting the leader of the world’s more than 1.4 billion Catholics as a “loser from the left” as well as “WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy,” while suggesting that the first American-born Pope was elected as a way to “deal with President Donald J. Trump.”

Former altar boy Jack White responded to Trump’s shocking imagery by calling it “blasphemy” and dubbing the former reality TV star a “deranged grifter.”

In addition to Musgraves, weekend two of Coachella will feature headlining sets from Anyma, Sabrina Carpenter, Blood Orange, Disclosure and Sexyy Red on Friday night, Justin Bieber, David Byrne, Interpol, Armin van Buuren x Ada Beyer on Saturday and Karol G, BIGBANG, Kaskade and Young Thug on Sunday night.
