There may be no Formula 1 racing action in April but Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari have been out on track this week.

Seven-time world champion Hamilton and Ferrari completed two days of tyre testing with Pirelli at the Scuderia’s Fiorano test track on Thursday and Friday.

The programme is providing Pirelli some valuable data to help the development work on its 2027 tyres.

The test was dedicated to the development of Pirelli’s wet tyre compounds, with Fiorano being artificially soaked using an irrigation system. As such, Pirelli could extract data from both its intermediate and full wet tyres.

Hamilton completed 142 laps (423km) in Ferrari’s 2026 challenger, the SF-26, on Thursday and was back on track again on Friday to conclude the two-day test.

Pirelli confirmed that Hamilton set a quickest time of 1m01.031s on the opening day of running at Ferrari’s private test track.

“The first day of Pirelli testing dedicated to the development of wet-weather compounds concluded today at the Fiorano circuit,” the Italian manufacturer said at the end of Thursday.

“Lewis Hamilton completed 142 laps of Ferrari’s private track, covering a total of 423 kilometres, as he tested various Full Wet tyre configurations throughout the morning and into the early afternoon.

“The programme then concluded with a number of runs on different Intermediate tyre variants to round off the day.

“The track was artificially watered using the circuit’s irrigation system, creating consistent wet conditions, with ambient temperatures reaching 21°C.

“The fastest lap of the day was a 1:01.031.

“The British driver will be back on track tomorrow to continue the wet-weather testing programme.”

Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc did not take part and has instead been focusing on simulator work at Maranello.

Ferrari’s outing followed a Pirelli tyre test conducted by Red Bull and Racing Bulls following the Japanese Grand Prix.

Next week, Mercedes and McLaren will be carrying out further tests for Pirelli at the Nurburgring (14-15 April).

It is understood that Ferrari will hold a filming day later this month at Monza that will be used to help optimise its 2026 power unit and test items planned for introduction at the Miami Grand Prix on 3 May.
