Andrea Iannone has made a surprise return to Superbike action at Misano.

The former MotoGP and World Superbike race winner’s future is uncertain after a planned 2026 WorldSBK entry with the Cainam Racing Team – Cainam being Iannone’s ‘Maniac’ nickname spelt backwards – failed to materialise.

However, the 36-year-old was back on a Ducati Panigale V4 during an Italian CIV championship test, riding for the Cecchini team.

Iannone shared several images and videos from the outing on his Instagram account:

The first Ducati MotoGP winner of the Gigi Dall’Igna era in 2016, Iannone then took further podiums for the factory Suzuki team before joining Aprilia in 2019.

He put the RS-GP into the lead of a MotoGP race for the first time at Phillip Island that year, but an anti-doping test at the following Sepang round would ultimately result in a four-year ban.

Iannone returned to racing action via WorldSBK in 2024, winning at the Aragon round.

Remaining with GoEleven Ducati for 2025, Iannone slipped a place to ninth in the standings, with three podiums.

The six-round Italian championship starts at the same Misano circuit on April 25-26.
