MotoGP engine guru set for swift KTM return from Honda?
MotoGP engine designer Kurt Trieb reported to be returning to KTM ahead of the 850cc era.
Kurt Trieb could be set for a swift return to KTM after a brief spell with Honda’s MotoGP project.
Trieb, who played a key role in developing the RC16 engine from its 2016 debut, left KTM to join HRC midway through last season.
However, according to Speedweek.com, Trieb is already on his way back to Austria.
The report states that the separation from Honda was “at Trieb’s own request”.
While KTM declined to comment, Speedweek adds: “After an unspecified break, the 62-year-old Trieb will return to his former workplace.
“The engineer will be able to resume his old role as lead engine developer in the racing department.”
MotoGP engines are undergoing their biggest change in over a decade, with capacity reduced from 1000cc to 850cc from 2027.
KTM was the first manufacturer to run an 850cc prototype on track at Jerez last December.
Development is expected to intensify in the coming months as manufacturers shift focus towards the new regulations.
KTM currently sits third in the riders’ standings with Pedro Acosta.
The Austrian manufacturer is also third in the constructors’ championship, one place ahead of Honda.
