Martin Brundle confirms reduced Sky commitments for F1 2026 season
Martin Brundle will appear at fewer races with Sky Sports in F1 2026.
Formula 1 legend Martin Brundle has confirmed a reduced workload with Sky Sports during the 2026 season.
The 66-year-old Briton has revealed he will only attend 16 grands prix this year as he cuts back on the amount of races he goes to. That is two rounds fewer than the 18 he went to in 2025.
Brundle began his punditry work for ITV in 1997 and worked for the broadcaster all the way through to 2008, before joining the BBC team between 2009 and 2011.
The following year, he moved to Sky Sports when it took over F1 broadcasting rights in the UK. Brundle has been an ever-present part of the Sky Sports F1 team ever since, but has gradually reduced his on-site presence in recent years.
Brundle appeared at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix but missed subsequent races in China and Japan, meaning his now-iconic ‘grid walk’ was not part of the pre-race build up at those events.
“I do 16 races a year, so I have to miss some, and they tend to be the early-hours-of-the-morning races,” Brundle explained on The F1 Show podcast. “But I always feel a bit sad when I’m not in Suzuka because I love that track as a driver and as a broadcaster, but I can’t do them all these days.”
However, Brundle confirmed he would be back on the ground at the upcoming Miami Grand Prix on 3 May.
Brundle believes Miami could represent a reset in the 2026 championship following an enforced five-week break after the cancellation of the Middle East double-header in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia due to the Iran war.
”I’m definitely in Miami,” he said. “That is going to be almost like the start of a new Formula One season. It’s going to be one of the biggest relaunches in the history of Formula 1, I think. It’s going to be early May, but looking forward to it.”
