The 2025–26 ski season across the American West is limping to a close in historic fashion. A combination of below-average snowfall and a record-breaking spring heat wave is sending snowpacks crashing. In Colorado, the season is being described as the worst in 50 years, with resorts opening less than half their usual terrain for much of the winter. In Utah, the snowpack peaked at 75% of average in late February before collapsing to just 15% of median by late March — a 60-point drop in less than a month. So which ski resorts are still open?

The industry has seen unprecedented early closures, outside of a pandemic. Dozens of ski areas in the West called it a season weeks ahead, with some smaller resorts in New Mexico, Idaho, Nevada, and the Pacific Northwest never opening or closing as early as February. Even major resorts have been affected: Deer Valley closed three weeks early, Snowbasin shut its lifts a month before its usual date, and Aspen’s Buttermilk and Highlands both closed ahead of schedule. Below is a state-by-state list of every western ski area that’s still open as of March 30, along with their current expected closing dates, which may change.
