British police said on Sunday seven people had suffered “serious but not life-threatening injuries” the previous day in the central English city of Derby when a car drove into pedestrians.
According to Derbyshire Police, the car, a black Suzuki Swift, struck several people in Friar Gate around 9:30 p.m. local time (2130 GMT) on Saturday.
The seven wounded people were treated by ambulance crews at the scene and taken to Royal Derby Hospital and Queen’s Medical Center in nearby Nottingham, police said.
What do we know about the suspect?
Shortly after the incident, a man in his 30s, originally from India, was found and arrested “on suspicion of attempted murder, causing serious injury through dangerous driving, inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, and dangerous driving.”
The police said that the investigation into the circumstances of the incident is ongoing, and that they are exploring all possible motives. The suspect remains in police custody.
Catherine Atkinson, the Member of Parliament for Derby North, said she was “deeply shocked.”
“My thoughts are with those injured and I’m grateful to our emergency services,” she said on social media.
