Tiger Woods was arrested at the scene of a car crash on Friday in Florida on suspicion of driving under the influence, authorities said.
Woods was showing signs of impairment, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities told media outlets that Woods’ Land Rover rolled over on a two-lane road near where Woods lives on Jupiter Island after the 50-year-old had attempted to pass a pressure cleaner truck, but clipped the back end of the truck’s trailer.
Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said the golf star and the person in the other vehicle were not injured.
What else do we know about Tiger Woods’ car crash?
The former world number one was able to crawl out of the passenger door of his Land Rover before officers arrived.
A breathalyzer test at Martin County Jail found no alcohol, with investigators believing Woods’ impairment was drug or medication-related.
However, Woods refused a urine test. The 50-year-old was charged with DUI, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test, all misdemeanors.
Under Florida law, he must remain in custody for at least eight hours before being released on bond.
Woods’ history of car accidents
This marks at least the third time Woods has been involved in a car crash.
The most recent incident occurred on February 23, 2021, when his car veered off a coastal road in Los Angeles, causing multiple leg and ankle injuries. Woods later said he nearly lost his legs.
In 2017, he also faced a DUI-related charge. Woods initially said he had taken a bad mix of painkillers, but later pleaded guilty to reckless driving.
