Summary

  • Nanimarquina x Eames Office unveiled the Lucia Eames Collection, translating seven of her artworks into rugs with motifs like butterflies, suns and birds
  • Crafted from natural fibers using artisanal techniques, the collection will debut at Milan Design Week 2026

The Lucia Eames Collection by nanimarquina, created in collaboration with the Eames Office and Form Portfolios, translates the joyful visual language of American artist Lucia Eames into textile form.

The collection comprises seven primary designs across thirteen references, including one tapestry, featuring recurring motifs such as butterflies, birds, suns, and abstracted organic forms. Drawing from Lucia’s lifelong affinity for fiber and paper-based exploration, nanimarquina’s creative director, Nani Marquina, paired each design with specific artisanal techniques to capture the expressive qualities of the original art. Notable technical innovations include sculptural tufting with varied pile heights and hand-braided jute, while other pieces utilize hand-knotting, hand-stitching, and embroidery to bring two-dimensional compositions into a three-dimensional, spatial format.

In keeping with both nanimarquina’s and Lucia Eames’ commitments to transformation and responsible production, the collection prioritizes natural fibers and sustainable methods. The rugs are handcrafted by artisan communities in India and Pakistan, with many designs featuring monomaterial constructions to support future recyclability. Furthermore, the entire collection is Climate Label Certified, reflecting a dedication to transparent environmental practices and carbon footprint reduction. The full collection will be presented both at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile and in a conceptual installation at Fuorisalone.

Debuting during Milan Design Week 2026, the collection will be presented at both Salone Internazionale del Mobile (Pavilion 22, Stand A20) and Fuorisalone in Via Statuto, Milan.
