Colorado’s second biggest ski area, Steamboat Resort (3,741 skiable acres) is planning to introduce a new parking system for winter 2026-27. The goal for the new system is to decrease the number of cars arriving with only one person and to promote carpooling. Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation is planning to implement the new system on opening day next winter.

For the 2025-26 season, Steamboat introduced a pre-book paid system in the Upper Knoll Lot. Visitors could pay $22 to secure a guaranteed spot. However, payment was not required, and free spots could still be available until the lot filled up. Parking was free this season in the Meadows Lot. Prior to this season, Steamboat offered free parking in both the Upper Knoll and Meadows Lots, reserving paid parking for a select group of premium lots.

Next season, guests will notice a wide range of options, including free, paid, and pre-booked parking spots. This new system is being added to improve parking availability and make it easier for guests to drive to the resort. During the week and during non-holiday times, visitors can expect free parking in the Meadows Lot. On the weekends and holidays, paid parking will be $15 for guests arriving before 1 p.m. with fewer than 3 people in the car. However, if you arrive after 1 p.m or are carpooling with 3 or more people in the car, parking is free. The Meadows Lot is located a few minute drive from the resort base area. Complimentary shuttles will transport guests to and from the resort.

Parking at Upper Knoll and Lower Knoll lots will be paid parking only, although the Upper Knoll lot will become free after 1 pm. Guests with three or more people in a car will be allowed to park in the Upper Knoll Lot for free on weekdays or weekends only with a pre-booked reservation. Steamboat Ski Corp. will sell a select number of parking season passes at the Upper Knoll and Meadows Lots for $600, or $300 for Meadows Lot only access. Passes for next season will go on sale this spring. Overflow parking areas will continue to be available at the Strings Parking Lot (950 Strings Road) and the Yampa Valley Medical Center (1024 Central Park Drive).

Steamboat regulars could avoid resort parking altogether by taking city’s free bus system at the Stockbridge Transit Center, or River Creek Park and get dropped off at the resort’s base area. The Northside parking lot will be removed this spring to allow construction of the Stockman development to begin. In 2023, Steamboat completed a multi-year upgrade named Full Steam Ahead, including the installation of the Wild Blue Gondola, relocation of the Steamboat Gondola, along with the new Mahogany Ridge expansion and a reconfigured base area at Steamboat Square.

Steamboat is introducing a number of changes to its parking policies to ease congestion and improve the resort experience for its guests. New paid parking requirements will hopefully encourage carpooling and busing, opening up much needed parking throughout the resort. We are hopeful these changes will create a better experience for locals and visitors alike.
