Renault Group has announced the next generation of tech that’ll underpin the future of its electric cars: RGEV Medium 2.0 electric platform.
Catchy name, right? Rolls right off the tongue. We’d better get used to it, though, as this will likely be a well-used platform – mainly as Renault is going for flexibility and aiming to use it for as many models as possible.
It’s been announced as part of the Group’s FutuREady game plan to expand and grow into the 2030s. While it looks at rolling out its E-Tech Hybrid powertrain into other markets, the Group says EVs ‘remain at the very heart of Renault’s strategy.’
The new RGEV platform announced here is designed for cars ranging in size from the Captur and Megane right up to the seven-seat Espace sold in Continental European markets. Two electric versions have been confirmed so far, one that is capable of up to 466 miles of e-range and another all-wheel drive one that can tow up to two tonnes.

The architecture is designed for European models and will run on an 800-volt architecture for faster charging speeds. There’s also the flexibility to include a combustion engine as a range extender, potentially boosting range up to 870 miles.
While no production models have been confirmed to use the platform yet, it will be rolled out for the Group’s next generation of electric vehicles.
