Milky white polish is the sheer shade that started it all. “Milky white gives you that cloud-like white without being stark or chalky,” says NYC-based manicurist Erica De Los Santos, specifically referring to DND’s Milky White. “It’s perfect if you love the milky and soap nails trends that are dominating 2026 minimalist manicures. It reads fresh and neutral rather than bold or intense.”

According to De Los Santos, this polish works well on all skin tones, as it’s a harmonizing neutral that doesn’t sharply contrast (unlike pure bright white shades). That said, you can always tailor the exact tone you pick to make your skin tone pop.

The way Evelyn Lim, the chief educator at MiniLuxe’s Paintbox studio, sees it, milky white manicures deliver the ultimate subtle, soft, and bright aesthetic. “Milky white nail polish is universally appealing and ideal for a minimalist or elevated classic manicure,” she says.

The right shade of pink also falls under the milky nail polish spectrum. Long considered to be a classic neutral shade, milky pink polish is versatile but can be further tailored by the tone you choose. For De Los Santos, the shade doesn’t get better than DND’s Milky Pink. “This milky pink isn’t overly bright or opaque—it’s that perfect balance between clean and feminine,” she explains. “It reads more polished than a bare nail but softer than a classic pink.” On fair to medium skin tones, it creates a “my nails but better” look, but “it also softens deeper tones into a luminous, healthy glow,” she adds.

Olive & June Puffball

No time to wait for your nails to dry? Make it easy on yourself with Olive & June’s Quick Dry Polish in Puffball. This soft milky pink shade takes mere seconds to fully dry, leaving you with a subtly sweet finish in no time. 

MiniLuxe Southern Belle

For a slightly more beige take on milky pink polish (or a stunning base for a classic French manicure), Lim says to reach for MiniLuxe’s Southern Belle. “This milky sheer pink is a soft, translucent blush that’s ideal for clients who want something polished yet minimal,” she shares. “It’s the perfect base for negative space nail art.”

It’d be a sin to discuss milky pink nail polish shades without mentioning the OG: Ballet Slippers by Essie. “A classic pale milky pink, Ballet Slippers has been a go-to for decades because it suits almost everyone and nearly any occasion,” De Los Santos says. “It’s slightly translucent with just enough color to feel polished without being bold.” The best part? It looks equally elegant on every skin tone, as De Los Santos points out.

If pink tones feel too frilly for you, Lim suggests reaching for a milky beige nude. “They’re creamy and modern with a refined, neutral feel,” she says. “The nail polish color especially complements medium to deeper skin tones, but is beautiful on all when the undertone is chosen correctly.” As for the exact shade above? Olive & June’s EC, inspired by the one and only (and ever-chic) Eva Chen. 

Gelcare Apricot Oil

Milky peach polishes are also a popular pick, offering a bit more warmth than their pink counterparts. “Milky peach nail polish is warm and brightening, best on olive undertones, and a great option for clients who find pinks too cool,” Lim says. Our go-to? Gelcare’s cult-favorite Apricot Oil. 

DND Lilac Clouds

Meanwhile, if cool-toned nails are your thing, you might consider a milky lilac manicure. “DND’s Lilac Clouds is a sheer, milky lilac that gives the softest, dreamiest finish on the nails,” De Los Santos shares. “It’s the perfect pastel if you want color without it feeling too bright or overwhelming.
