What does the color blue have to do with the Bridgerton universe? A lot, actually. Daphne wore it. Kate wore it. Penelope wore it. Sophie is wearing it. The Bridgerton family home is covered in it.
It’s such a thing that a specific shade of blue—super soft and slightly powdery—has been dubbed “Bridgerton blue”—and the ladies of 19th century Shondaland aren’t the only ones who love it. The cool shade was a real-life Regency era favorite, and is back in a big way today.

What Is Regency Blue?
As the name suggests, the Regency Blue trend has to do with early 19th-century British society style… better known today as Bridgerton-core. On the show, the Bridgerton family is often seen wearing a pale blue shade—the specificity of which has been debated by those who work on set. Costume designer John Glaser recently told Town & Country that there’s no exact “Bridgerton blue,” any soft hue will do the trick.

But back in Season 1, production designer Will Hughes-Jones told a different story. He called the shade “a very particular pale hue: the color of Wedgwood, the iconic British ceramics brand.” It’s been likened to Pantone 657, and closely resembles a shade called “Clarence blue.” In a blog post, regency historian Beatrice Knight explained the shade was a favorite for women’s fashion from 1816 to 1819—”and considered to be in good taste for all ages.”

Other shades of blue were also hits. Most of all: celestial blue, a slightly more vibrant shade that gained popularity in the early 1800s and stuck around for decades. Centuries, even! If you’ve been to Aritzia lately, you know.

Why It’s Trending
Bridgerton is back, baby. As mentioned, fans of the show know that it features the color blue heavily, and has since the beginning.

Besides that, I don’t think we got all of our baby blue excitement out of the way last spring. There are more outfits to put together and color combos (how about icy blue and burgundy?!) to try. Thus, the shade is having an IRL moment as well. Lady Gaga wore it for her surprise Super Bowl performance, Karol G wore it to the Grammys, and fashion week street style around the world has been full of pops of blue, from undershirts to cozy winter gloves. For what it’s worth (a lot) Hilary Duff has also been into the shade.

Key Takeaways
- Bridgerton is back—and still as obsessed with the color blue as the rest of us.
- The soft blue featured on the show was a Regency-era favorite, and there are still plenty of ways to shop it today.
Dearest reader, the time has come for us to place our bets on most popular colors for the upcoming social season. I’m putting all mine on Bridgerton, or rather “Regency,” Blue.
