Raise your hand if the extreme cold this winter has taken its toll on your skin. Everyone? From dullness to dryness to irritation, the chilliest months of the year are rough on our complexions—but that doesn’t mean we’re without solutions. Using richer moisturizers, prioritizing barrier health, and switching to a gentler regimen when necessary are all good places to start. But perhaps no one gets winter skincare quite like companies with roots in our favorite chilly destinations, like Utah-based brand Dime. Its hero products, such as the Eyelash Boost Serum and the TBT Cream, have earned the label a cult following for their balance of efficacy, conscious ingredients, and gentleness on the skin.

Dime participated in a weekend of events at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival (the final year in Utah!) to tease their upcoming Dewy Recovery Mask, created to deliver the deep hydration and barrier repair many of us are seeking this time of year. I traveled to Park City to experience the brand IRL, and the suite of products kept my skin seriously dewy—even as temps remained largely below freezing. Ahead, learn more about the mask and why the brand’s Utah roots may be the key to winter skin bliss, complete with insights from founder Baylee Relf.

Dime’s Approach to Skin Wellness

Dime Beauty was founded in 2018 by Relf and her husband, Ryan, after years of experience as a master esthetician led her to seek a new approach to skin wellness. “We needed to start our own solution that married nature with science to deliver the results people desired,” she says. “We’ve made it our mission to educate consumers on the ingredient usage while holding their hands on how to properly take care of their skin and creating a healthier barrier function.”

The brand’s formulation integrates natural and synthetic ingredients to optimize products for efficacy and skin resilience. “We don’t try to deliver quick-fix results, but provide formulas that support and strengthen the skin’s incredible ability to repair, protect, and resist factors of all kinds that try to damage and accelerate signs of aging,” Relf tells us. “We equip our community with solutions that will provide skin resiliency, which we don’t think is emphasized enough in the beauty industry.”

In 2020, the pandemic led to an industry-wide skincare boom, and Dime was no exception. The aforementioned Eyelash Boost Serum—whose proprietary peptide blend is gentler on the eyes than some similar products—became its first major hit among creators and consumers alike. In the years since, the brand has continued to expand, developing a wide range of skin and body products and entering the fragrance market with five eau de toilettes—crowd-pleaser 7 Summers is an uplifting, woodsy gourmand.

But even through all this growth, “my approach to skincare has never really changed,” Relf tells us. “From the beginning, I’ve been deeply passionate about protecting and strengthening the skin barrier, because I believe healthy skin starts there. That belief still guides me today and is woven into every product we create.”

Why Utah Understands Winter Skin

It’s not surprising that skincare brands are often particularly effective at addressing concerns in their home climates—and Utah greatly influences Dime’s ethos. “With its high elevation, strong sun exposure, and persistently dry air, our climate puts constant stress on the skin barrier,” Relf says. “We saw firsthand how few products on the market truly support skin in these conditions. Our approach is rooted in resilience, innovating formulas that repair and strengthen the skin in the environments that demand the most.”

The brand’s offerings clearly reflect this mission, with products prioritizing a nourishing, protective approach alongside functionality. I definitely notice the difference: Powerful ingredients like vitamin C and witch hazel feel gentler than in similar formulas I’ve tried, leaving my skin calm and glowing even on the most frigid days.

About the Mask

Launching on February 8 on Ulta, Amazon, and the brand’s website, Dime’s new Dewy Recovery Mask aims to improve hydration, radiance, and barrier health through a formula designed to enhance skin mimicry and resiliency over time. It includes barrier-boosting snow mushroom extract for moisture retention and elasticity, vitamin C to brighten and even tone, and the ever-buzz-worthy NAD+ to fuel cellular repair and renewal.

Curious how that last one functions in the mask? “NAD+ supports the skin’s natural repair and energy processes, helping cells function more efficiently as they age,” Relf explains. “In skincare, it’s valued for boosting resilience, improving hydration and barrier strength, and supporting long-term skin health rather than just short-term glow.” While I’ve previously encountered NAD+ primarily in supplements, treatments, and specialized serums, it makes sense that we’d all want that cellular innovation across more skincare products—especially in a rejuvenating mask.

How to Use It

Perhaps my favorite part of the Dewy Recovery Mask is that there are two main ways to use it, so you can fit its benefits into your morning or evening routine, depending on your lifestyle and needs. Relf details both methods below:

  • The quick fix: “For an instant hydration boost, apply a generous layer, leave on for 15 minutes, then rinse off,” Relf tells us. This is how I’ve primarily used it so far, and I love that it provides a happy medium between lightweight sheet masks and a more intensive overnight treatment.
  • The deep dive: “For deeper, overnight hydration and to support cellular longevity with NAD, apply before bed and leave on while you sleep, rinsing off in the morning,” Relf says. “Both methods are suitable for all skin types, but for ultra-dry skin, using the mask overnight on top of your nighttime moisturizer is a great option.”

Byrdie Tip

You also can adapt how much of the mask you put on to fit your needs. Apply a thin layer if you want a quick reset of lightweight hydration, or lay it on thick for deeper nourishment.

My Review

I first tried the Dewy Recovery Mask the night I arrived at Sundance. Fresh off a five-hour flight and feeling thrown off by the change in altitude, I was in desperate need of a reset in the form of skincare TLC. I decided to start with the 15-minute option after my nightly cleanse, and that’s largely how I’ve continued to use it—though I’ve also found it great for slower mornings when I’m working from home.

The mask’s texture is thick and creamy, but once applied, it’s not at all heavy—it feels more like a lightweight yet protective blanket. It’s essentially invisible on the skin, and it’s not sticky or goopy. While I personally don’t gravitate toward using a wash-off mask overnight, this one would be great if that’s your preference: It sticks close to your skin, so you can wear it to bed without worrying about it getting all over your pillowcase.

Removing the mask is as quick and easy as rinsing off a creamy cleanser, but the deep nourishment is immediately noticeable. Each time I use it, my skin is plumper and more radiant, plus drier areas of my combination skin (such as around my nose) noticeably calm down. The treatment is rich, though not overwhelmingly so. I find it ideal to apply it a couple of times a week to my current winter skin, though you can use it more or less often depending on your needs.

I’m thrilled to have a new mask in my collection that’s so easy to use, yet deeply nourishing and effective—and I can’t wait to see how the results build with consistent use. It’s quickly met the moment for my current skin concerns, but its hero ingredients have even more potential over time.

The Final Takeaway

Winter can be hard on your complexion, but the key is to work with your skin barrier—and that understanding is exactly what makes Dime’s full line stand out. The Dewy Recovery Mask is immediately soothing, nourishing, and glow-boosting, but perhaps most importantly, its ingredients work to improve your skin’s health and elasticity over time. With the New York winter being colder and more brutal than it’s been in years, I’m thinking more often about the brands that know these climates best. Paired with modern innovation, this existing knowledge can truly be a game-changer.
