With a show like The ‘Burbs, which is based on the 1989 movie of the same name, you might think star Keke Palmer might go for an ’80s-inspired look for the premiere. But her glam team went in an entirely different retro direction, evoking the murder-mystery vibes behind the series and throwing it back to the 1960s with a Hitchcockian beauty moment.
Palmer arrived at the Universal City event in head-to-toe Gucci—literally. Stylist Molly Dickson decked her out in logo-print boots, bag, trench coat, and, to top it all off, a headscarf that recalls Tippi Hedren in The Birds.
Under that scarf, hairstylist Ashanti Hildreth sculpted flawless finger waves. Layers of caramel curls peek out of the front of the scarf like an ocean swell, proving that a super-short pixie cut like the one Palmer’s been sporting lately has plenty of potential for a variety of looks. (We just wish we could see her whole head!)
The ‘60s feel continues with Palmer’s makeup—especially the eyes. Makeup artist Kenya Alexis created a softly graphic cut crease reminiscent of mod looks, going especially bold with the sharply winged lower liner and clusters of lashes on her lower lash line. So Twiggy.
At the same time, Alexis included modern-day trends into Palmer’s look with defined lip liner in a gorgeous brown hue around a lighter, pinker shade of diffused, matte lipstick.
The look serves exactly the kind of wink-wink, on-theme drama we love to see a celeb wear while promoting a new project.
