► MG announces new MG4 Urban model
► Cheaper price, different design…
► …and an extremely confusing name
MG has announced its new MG4 Urban, which is looks totally different and costs a chunk less than the MG4 – and yet almost has the same name. If you’re confused, so are we.
The new MG4 Urban also launches at the same time as a refreshed version of the car that’s already called the MG4 – the angry-looking one that’s been on sale since 2022 and is quite good. Still confused? There’s more.
MG has released just a single image of both cars, showing that the new MG4 Urban comes with a completely different look to the regular MG4 – even if it’s one that looks more cohesive with other MG cars like the ZS, HS and MGS5. It’s even got wheels very much like those seen on the Cyberster roadster.
The new MG4 Urban launches at a price starting from £23,495 and comes in three specifications: Comfort Standard Range, Comfort Long Range (priced from £25,495) and Premium Long Range (£27,995).
MG UK has neglected to tell us a single thing about those variants besides the price, with even its listing on the public website saying little else other than that the Urban ‘goes one step further in making cutting edge electric hatchbacks attainable without compromise.’

Other details and images (like the one above) only surface when you dig into MG’s website in China. What’s defined as the ‘New MG4’ there uses a 42.8kWh battery pack, a 161bhp e-motor, a limited top speed of 99mph and a claimed range of 271 miles via China’s CLTC testing cycle.
As for the updated MG4, MG UK’s commercial director Guy Pigounakis says that the brand has ‘retained and enhanced all the key driving characteristics and introduced a comprehensive range of new technologies for an even more impressive experience.’
This new model has a starting price of £29,995 for the Premium Long Range version, which MG points out is £2,750 less than before. The Premium Extended Range version priced at £32,995 gets a bump in claimed range – up to 338 miles – while the XPower tops the list at £33,995.
We’ll update this story when MG UK decides to tell us more.
