OPI Global Ambassador and celebrity manicurist Natalie Minerva believes the rise of fawn print nails is a response to getting bored with other classic prints. “I think deer nails are trending because it’s a fantastic alternative to tortoiseshell, which is a classic fall/winter look,” she explains. “It’s new, but gives you essentially the same feeling and palette.” 

Evelyn Lim, chief educator at MiniLuxe’s Paintbox studio, is also a fan of fawn print for winter 2026. “Dare I say, they are the new neutrals,” she exclaims. “We have seen everything from cheetah, tortoise, cow, and snake prints—deer nails are the latest, combining animal prints with a cozy color palette.”

Meanwhile, NYC-based manicurist Erica De Los Santos says the switch from cheetah to deer print nails aligns with the overall muted aesthetic that continues to rock the nail world. “The soft neutral base allows for tiny, delicate designs—like deer or micro prints—that add personality without being loud,” she explains. “People want nails that feel polished, minimal, and wearable for everyday life, and deer nails give that balance: detailed but subtle. They photograph beautifully for social media, fit into nature-inspired and soft aesthetic trends, and work for clients who want something trendy without going bold.”

How to Get the Look

Like many animal print nails, the Bambi mani isn’t terribly difficult to DIY. So long as you can steady your hand enough to paint dots onto each nail and blur them out for that fuzzy, fawn-like effect, the look is totally within reach. 

“I would suggest pulling out a couple of different nude and brown polishes, and fading the colors together vertically,” Minerva says, noting that OPI’s Spice Up Your Life, Cliffside Karaoke, and A Total Suzi work well for base tones. “Then, add the dots in a light color: I would suggest using a creamy hue instead of bright white. Another option? “A matte top coat for texture, or start with a nude cat eye color for a metallic twist,” Lim says. 

At the end of the day, the beauty of all animal print nails is that they don’t require perfectionism. “The best way to put your own spin on a trending animal-inspired nail design is to remember that no two animals have the same pattern,” De Los Santos says. “Play with different ombré placements, mix multiple shades within the same color family, and vary your dot or print patterns from nail to nail. You can keep some nails softer and others more defined, change the scale of the design, or shift where the pattern sits. That freedom to mix tones, placements, and patterns makes the look feel custom instead of copied.”
