Key Takeaways

  • Romantic, effortless hairstyles were trending at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
  • Stars showed up in loose waves and looser updos while natural textures stole hearts.

Unfortunately, the days of falling in love with a celeb solely based on a photo you see of them in a teen magazine are over. Now, we see photos from events instantly, on Instagram or from our favorite Oscar nominee’s fan account on the website formerly known as Twitter.

But we can still fall in love with said celeb! Especially when their hair looks this romantic.

The Romantic Hair Trend

At the 2026 Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 1, love was in the hair. Celebrities kept their locks soft, flowy, and altogether ethereal whether they were going for loose waves or a looser updo. Most of the time, this meant sticking with lots of length. Who has time to keep up with a bob when you’re deeply in love?

We’ve been on this path for a while. A few years ago, Charli XCX told us everything was romantic and we took that to heart. So did she! Just look at her darkly romantic “Chains of Love” music video hair—and her XXL Grammy’s blowout, for that matter.

Now it’s February and Wuthering Heights is coming out and everyone wants to look like a romance novel heroine. (FYI: That’s a different energy from a rom-com heroine—unless that rom-com heroine is ‘90s Julia Roberts letting her curls fly free.)

Where We Saw It

Romantic styles were spotted on the likes of Sabrina Carpenter, Tyla, and Chappell Roan on Sunday evening. The first two divas chose updos: a loose, “unrestricted” version for Carpenter created by celebrity hairstylist Evanie Frausto using Redken products (“we wanted the hair to look soft and airy with pieces that fell naturally down the back like they just landed there,” he explained) and a fabulous messy ponytail with a loose baby braid by Ahmad Christopher for Tyla.

Roan kept her hair down, but also got the “let’s work a braid in” memo. Her red curls, in their many sizes and formats, kissed her forehead and cascaded down her back.

That’s not all, though. Romance is everywhere.

Kesha and Coco Jones went with a just-saved-a-lover-from-being-swept-away-by-the-ocean romantic wet look, while Laufey, Karol G, the Haim sisters, and most of Katseye were just a few of the many who choose middle-parted, softly-waved romance.

What makes hair romantic? Well, that’s mostly up to individual interpretation. We all have our own love language, after all.

Still, there are some tell-tale signs that a ‘do fits the specific genre. A little messiness is one of them. From blurred lips to half zips, it’s in to be effortless, and nothing about romantic hair should feel too thought out. A windswept element is helpful, so you can pretend you just finished riding a horse to someone’s house to profess your love.

The most important thing is texture. Obviously people with pin straight hair can be in love (I saw you and my childhood crush last night, Billie Eilish) but some curl or wave really gives romance. Try an air dry at home or go hang out in the moors and see what the elements do to your hair naturally. Then, add some extra face-framing tendrils.

As our best new artist Olivia Dean famously sang, “it’s so easy to fall in love.” It’s not as easy to get her curl pattern, but that’s the thing about this trend—the most romantic thing your hair can do is be itself.
