Memorial rides are planned across the United States this Saturday in remembrance of Alex Pretti, who was shot and killed by ICE agents last Saturday, January 24, while protesting the ongoing federal immigration operation in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Pretti was a 37-year-old ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center as well as an avid cyclist. He has been described by family and colleagues in local media as a kind, calm man who loved the outdoors and biking.
Angry Catfish bike shop, where Pretti was a customer, is helping organize a memorial ride on Saturday, January 31, starting at Washburn Fair Oaks Park. The shop is encouraging others across the country and world to organize their own local memorial rides, supplying artwork and copy as a starting point for flyers and social media posts.
“If you’d like to join in and gather folks together, please print the flyer and tag us on social media so we can share where your ride will take place,” the shop wrote in an Instagram post. The Minneapolis ride is also being organized or supported by Bonesaw Cycling Collective, GenoSack, Melanin In Motion, The Price Brothers, Unsanctioned Ride group, and others.

So far over 100 rides are planned across the U.S. and world. They will take place coast to coast in cities large and small, and have even been planned in places as farflung as Australia and the Arctic Circle in Norway.
