Nintendo criticised for censoring NSFW superhero game ‘Dispatch’

“Adults don’t need their adult content censored”

Nintendo has angered fans by censoring the Switch release of NSFW superhero game Dispatch.

Dispatch is a superhero workplace comedy game that brings together action, adventure, puzzle and strategy.  “Manage a dysfunctional team of misfit heroes and strategise who to send to emergencies around the city, all while balancing office politics, personal relationships, and your own quest to become a hero,” reads an official description.

The game has an “overwhelmingly positive” user review score on Steam and “generally favourable” critic score on review aggregate site Metacritic.

As part of the gameplay, Dispatch features a lot of nudity, severe profanity, moderate gore and at least one sex scene. For the 2025 PlayStation and PC release, developers AdHoc added a “visual censorship toggle” for gamers who didn’t want to see cartoon genitalia.

Dispatch is out today for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 but fans have discovered that certain elements of the game have been censored, with no way to change it.

“Different platforms have different content criteria, and submissions are evaluated individually. For our Switch release, we worked with Nintendo to adapt certain elements so Dispatch could be on their platform,” said AdHoc in a statement to Nintendolife. “The core narrative and gameplay experience remains identical to the original release.”

“This is ridiculous. I preloaded the game and I won’t play it until they remove the censorship,” wrote one Reddit user with others asking for a refund over the decision. “Really annoyed that they chose not to mention this until release day,” added another. “Adults don’t need their adult content censored, we know what the fuck we are watching,” said a third.

“Games like Cyberpunk and The Witcher contain nudity and aren’t censored on the Switch. Not sure why Dispatch would be singled out unless there’s more to it,” asked another fan.

Last year, Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick hinted that Grand Theft Auto 6 could be made available on the Switch 2. “There was a time when Nintendo platforms were geared at younger audiences and that was reflected in our release schedule. Today, the Switch device can support any audience.”

In other news, Tomb Raider has announced a year-long celebration in honour of Lara Croft’s 30th anniversary – with fans hoping a new remastered collection is on the way.
