‘Grand Theft Auto 6’ leak worries might delay physical release

Fans have been using drones and fake IDs to spy on Rockstar

“Crazy” Grand Theft Auto 6 fans have been trying to spy on developers Rockstar which means the physical release of the game might be delayed to 2027.

Developers Rockstar recently fired a number of staff after accusing them of sharing confidential information with the public and back in 2022, a British teenager was arrested for hacking Rockstar and leaking over one hours-worth of development footage for Grand Theft Auto 6.

According to games journalist Reece Reilly, a number of “crazy” Grand Theft Auto fans have also tried to get inside information about the new game. “I have heard stories from Rockstar devs over the years of nutty fans trying to get into their buildings to get any info they can from faking IDs to flying drones above windows to try to get images/video,” he wrote on X.

Because of this, it’s been reported that Rockstar won’t give Grand Theft Auto 6 a physical release when it launches on November 19. “GTA is a way bigger beast now than it was when GTA 5 launched and I’d bet all my money that this game would leak early if there are physical discs,” said Reilly. “Unfortunately there are a number of crazy Rockstar fans that would 100 per cent break into retail stores and manufacturing facilities to steal discs. People on the inside would leak it as well.”

“We’re hearing more and more that the physical version won’t be released simultaneously with the digital version to prevent leaks,” said one insider earlier this week (via ppe.pl). “We’re getting conflicting reports – some say the physical version will arrive three to four weeks after the digital release, while others say it won’t happen until early 2027.”

However some fans believe Rockstar are delaying the physical release of Grand Theft Auto 6 so they can charge people twice for the same game.

“Corporate gaslighting at its finest. This has absolutely nothing to do with ‘leaks’. This is 100 per cent to save money by not paying to manufacture physical copies and to maintain more control over the digital media,” speculated one fan. “They’re just trying to get digital sales. Greedy Rockstar at it again, ruining gaming for everyone,” added another.

There has been plenty of speculation about Rockstar charging $100 for Grand Theft Auto 6 and fans are still worried the game will be delayed to 2027 after it was pushed back from late 2025 to November 2026. The last official update from Rockstar about Grand Theft Auto 6 came in early November.
