As of Friday, Pinarello is the latest bike brand to throw a hat into the drop bar mountain bike ring. The Pinarello Grevil MX is the name the brand has given this latest… creation and it’s essentially the Pinarello Dogma XC Hardtail.

No, it’s actually a copy of the Dogma XC Hardtail
Whatever you know, or don’t because you like gravel bikes, about the Dogma XC, this new bike is the same. The geometry numbers between the two are identical.
| Metric | Dogma XC Hardtail | Grevil MX |
| Seat Tube Angle | 75° | 75° |
| Head Tube Angle | 67.75° | 67.75° |
| Chainstay Length | 425mm | 425mm |
| Head Tube Length | 90mm | 90mm |
| Seat Tube Length | 435mm | 435mm |
| Fork Rake | 58mm | 58mm |
| Trail | 101mm | 101mm |
Likewise, the rest of the frame is unchanged in any way. The construction uses the same M40J Toray carbon fiber and just like the mountain bike the “chainstays and seatstays have both been specifically shaped and reinforced to withstand the high torsional forces typical of aggressive” mountain biking. No wait, it’s actually meant to withstand “gravel riding, steep off-road climbs and explosive accelerations.”
You can also find the same distinctive bottom bracket triangle as the mountain bike. That then flows into a rear triangle that retains the asymmetric design that adds structure to “counterbalance the higher loads generated on the drivetrain side.” Expect the same threaded BB paired with fully integrated TiCR cable routing as well.

Tire clearance is different… except it’s not
Pinarello claims that the “Grevil MX is optimised for 50mm gravel tires” and that it achieves “an optimal blend of traction and fatigue reduction.” Except that upfront the suspension is nearly identical. The Grevil MX uses the FOX 32 Float Step Cast Factory Kashima while the Dogma XC uses the Fox 32 Performance Elite SC. The two are the same other than the gold “Kashima” coating. Fox reports that “FOX 32MM forks will accept tire sizes up to 2.40 inches wide.”

At the rear of the bike, it’s similar. There is no difference to the frame construction and PinkBike reports that “maximum tire clearance is 29 x 2.35 inches.”
Whatever reason Pinarello has for claiming the bike is optimized for 50mm tires, and speccing Schwalbe G-One R Pro in 50mm front and rear, it’s not about clearance. It’s also an oddity given that there are a number of gravel bikes that fit 50mm and Pinarello President Fausto Pinarello said: “The GREVIL MX is designed for riders who push gravel beyond its typical boundaries.”

What is different about the Pinarello Grevil MX?
The first difference is the drop bar cockpit. The chosen option is the MOST Talon Ultra Light that you can find on Pinarello road bikes. It means there’s no need for new carbon molds but it may also introduce some issues.

Typically you’d need an extreme negative stem that’s oddly short to make a mountain bike work with a drop bar. The shortest stem that Pinarello offers on that bar is 90mm at -8°. That is going to leave quite a long reach on a rather upright bike. If you are serious about this bike, I recommend checking the fit.
The other change is gearing. Both the flat bar bike and the drop bar bike are running a full SRAM Transmission setup. While the flat bar gets the GX level, the Grevil MX is running a SRAM XX SL Eagle AXS rear derailleur, cassette, and chain. The cassette on both offers the same range but upfront the Grevil MX has a 38T aero chainring instead of the 32T you’ll find on the mountain bike.

The Grevil MX is also running nicer wheels. While the mountain bike sticks to aluminum, the drop bar gets the DT Swiss XRC 1200 carbon fiber wheel. Obviously the tires are different as well with the already mentioned 50mm on the drop bar.
In case you later change your mind, you can still swap the flat bar setup on. Nothing changes between the frames. You can also add a dropper post for even more mountain bike features.
