The One Thing
Our series The One Thing is a Sparknotes version of the products, rituals, and moments your favorite celebrities and influencers swear by—their go-tos, must-haves, and can’t-live-withouts. So go ahead—take a brief, intimate peek into the lives of your favorites through the things (and people, and moments) they hold dear.
At the risk of sounding like a true freak, I have so many photos of Chloë Sevigny saved that my phone recognizes her face with a dedicated album. What can I say? Like so many women before me, the actor and It girl has been a guiding light when shaping my own personal style. I’ve thought to myself, What would Chloë wear? in an outfit crisis on more than one occasion.
While I could rattle off countless looks with her signature off-kilter take on femininity, one photo in particular takes up permanent space in my brain: A babyfaced Chloë, in her pixie cut era, standing next to Kate Moss backstage at Miu Miu’s SS/96 show. Sevigny is holding a glass of champagne, wearing a bra top and sheer skirt, while Moss wears hot pants and grass-green heels. It’s so perfectly ’90s, equal parts glamour and grit.
As it tuns out, it’s not just one of my favorite photos, but one of Sevigny’s own cherished memories. “Miu Miu is a brand that has been part of my life and career since the very beginning,” she tells Byrdie. “I first walked in a Miu Miu show back in 1996, and that moment really marked the start of a creative friendship that’s endured for decades.”

The latest advancement in that relationship? The actor’s role as a face of the brand’s latest fragrance, Miutune, a “twisted gourmand” with notes of wild strawberry, warm brown sugar, and patchouli.
Ahead, Sevigny fills us in on her beauty essentials, her fail-safe outfit, and how wearing Miutine makes her feel.
The One Thing That Drew Her to Miu Miu
“There was something so fresh and subversive about what Miuccia Prada was doing, it spoke to individuality, intelligence, and a kind of offbeat femininity that I immediately connected with.”
The Way Wearing Miutine Makes her Feel
“Wearing Miutine gives me this incredible sense of confidence and ease. It feels both timeless and unexpected. There’s a warmth and edge to it that mirrors so much of what I love about Miu Miu.”

Miu Miu Beauty
The One Beauty Look That Always Makes Her Feel Herself
“I’ve always felt most like myself with a clean face, strong brow, and a bold lip—something classic but with character. I like when beauty feels a little undone, a little lived-in.”
The One Outfit Formula She Can Always Count On
“My go-to always starts with something vintage, maybe a great pair of jeans or a pleated skirt, and I’ll build from there.”

@chloessevigny/Instagram
The One Thing Always in Her Bag
“A lip balm, always. I put it on my lips, my hands, even my cuticles. And Miutine so I can reapply throughout the day.”

The One Thing She’s Excited to Wear This Winter
“I’m excited to play with texture and layering this season. Cozy knits, structured coats, and a hint of something unexpected, like a sheer slip or a statement boot. I love the contrast of something soft mixed with something a bit tougher.”
Her Perfect NYC Day
“I’ve been away working a lot the past few months, so right now my perfect NYC day is a quiet day at home with my family, or in the park with my son—just watching him explore outside.”
