For those of us who were raised in the Golden Era of Youtube, Lisa Eldridge has always been the fairy godmother of refined glam. In an era dominated by overlined matte lips and blocky brows, Eldridge, a celebrity makeup artist, was—and still is—the voice of reason. With her velvety British accent, she taught us the art of wearable yet editorial makeup like Alexa Chung-esque smoky eyes and sultry date night glam. But loyal followers know that her most defining technique is her signature concealer method, “pinpoint concealing.”

It’s a technique that has garnered Eldridge a reputation as the go-to makeup artist for celebs with less-than-perfect skin (as well as those who just like a barely-there complexion, like Dua Lipa), and it was my saving grace as I struggled with cystic acne in high school. Thankfully, pinpoint concealing just became substantially easier, because Lisa Eldridge Beauty launched a micro pencil specifically designed for ultra-precise application.

Ahead, discover Lisa Eldridge’s latest launch, the Pinpoint Concealer Micro Correcting Pencil, and my honest review.

The Product

Retailing at $34, the Lisa Eldridge Pinpoint Concealer Micro Correcting Pencil is truly the first of its kind in the concealer category. The pencil features an ultra-precise 1.5 millimeter tip and a self-setting, waterproof formula available in 16 shades. The pencil also features a twist-up mechanism and a sharpener for on-the-go precision.

Combining waxes, emollients, linear silicones, and film formers, the formula is meant to pack on the pigment while also seamlessly blending into the skin to produce a soft matte finish. “The intensely pigmented coverage allows you to cover and camouflage anything from broken capillaries and blemishes to micro-shadows,” Eldridge tells Byrdie.

The Technique

The pinpoint concealer technique is all about selective camouflage—which means that less really is more. Eldridge explains that it’s “all about precisely concealing only the areas you feel are absolutely necessary to disguise, so that the skin in-between can be less heavily made up and the skin overall still looks natural.”

Using the pencil, lightly scribble on and around any spots you want to conceal. Rather than drawing a perfectly round circle, make the edges non-uniform to make the concealing less visible to the eye. Use your fingertips or a small brush to buff out the coverage, ensuring that the edges are blended into the surrounding skin. For extra coverage, go back in a second time, stippling directly on the spot. The end result: A flawless, but natural-looking complexion.

Derek Deng

“No-makeup makeup just got a makeover. I grew up watching Lisa Eldridge meticulously spot conceal acne spots on Youtube, so this launch felt like a long time coming. And it’s everything it’s meant to be: It’s easy, it’s itty-bitty, and it provides the perfect micro-dose of coverage. I will say that the soft-matte formula is on the drier side, so I’d make sure to properly exfoliate and moisturize the skin before use. Spot concealing often makes me feel like I have uneven splotches of pigment on my face, but this pencil truly revolutionizes that process, turning it into something playful that makes me nostalgic for the days of scribbling away in a coloring book. The end result? A satisfyingly foundation-free finish that will have you battling Facetune allegations.”
