Summer may be over, but Chappell Roan’s world domination won’t be slowing down anytime soon—and neither will her iconic looks. The singer’s high-drama take on fashion and beauty often subverts expectations with out-of-the-box ensembles that create moments that will go down in the pop history books. For example, she’ll transform on stage into Lady Liberty or the iconic drag queen Divine, and her best glam spans rainbow eyeshadows, intricate costumes, and references to queer culture galore.

You couldn’t have guessed Roan would arrive at the VMA’s with a sword in hand. The “Pink Pony Club” singer cosplayed a medieval heroine, working with makeup artist Andrew Dahling to create a doll-like complexion. Her milky white base was complemented by super skinny brows, a shimmery gold eyeshadow look, and a stained red lip.

There are not enough adjectives to properly explain all the intricate details of Roan’s Black Swan look for her performance on The Tonight Show—you just have to see it for yourself. She totally transformed with a blonde curly wing, white feathered eyelashes, and a frosty lip look, also the work of Dahling.

For her performance at Kentuckiana Pride, Roan paid homage to drag queen Divine, re-creating her look from the movie Pink Flamingos. Sky-blue eyeshadow, skinny brows, and overlined lips were the statement of her makeup complemented by lots of pink blush applied all over her cheeks.

Dare we say Lady Libery was her most fun look yet? Roan transformed into the New York landmark by painting her entire body green with monochromatic glam to match. She wore a green chrome lipstick, contoured with a darker shade of green, and created a shimmery eye look using black and white eyeliner, gemstones, and fluffy lashes.

For this year’s Lollapalooza music festival, Roan took inspiration from the ensembles of Luchadora wrestlers. Once the mask came off, Roan revealed a graphic eye look, complete with black and silver flames across her eyes and forehead to create a mask-like shape. She completed the look with a pink flush and a contrasting black and pink lip.

Chappell Roan’s NPR Tiny Desk Concert was a major turning point for her career and signature style. For the performance, Roan and makeup artist Sterling Tull did a spin on ’80s prom makeup complete with skinny brows, bold blue eyeshadow, and lipstick-smudged teeth.

Roan’s look for the 2024 Grammys afterparty is the same as the cover of her single, “Good Luck Babe.” The meaning of the prosthetic pig nose by Tyler Green is contested amongst fans, but some argue it’s an ode to Miss Piggy or the iconic Twilight Zone episode “Eye of the Beholder” (we like to think it’s a nod to the titular pig in Babe). No matter what the case may be, the nose, red lipstick, and white mascara are the standouts of her glam.

Roan’s most prolific performance of the year at Coachella featured glam from Half Magic’s Donni Davy. Davy wrote in an Instagram post that the vibe was “dreamy punk makeup,” and she crafted a marshmallow complexion with bright fuschia blush paired with a winged turquoise eyeliner that wrapped around Roan’s eyes and lashes.

Even when Roan isn’t tapping into a character on-stage, she’s always opting for bright, colorful glam. For her shows in Australia the singer wore a blue ombré eye look, featuring a Tiffany blue shade on the lid that blended into a deep cobalt color. She finished the makeup with pink blush dotted with colorful paint splatters and an orange matte lipstick.

Of course, the song “Pink Pony Club” deserves a pink-inspired look to go with it. The all-pink ensemble featured matching glam from her eyeshadow to her lipstick. Roan’s intricate eye makeup is a constant between all of her looks, and this one includes a harmonious blend of baby pink, magenta, and shimmery pinks.

It wouldn’t be a Chappell Roan look without a good reference—her ode to the Marie Antionette put a punk spin on the queen’s Baroque aesthetic. She styled a curly blonde updo with purple eyeshadow, spider lashes, just-bitten lipstick, and a signature beauty mark.

Roan’s best looks may require the touch of a trained makeup artist, but this cute selfie featuring a purple cut crease can be replicated at home with the right products. She wore a shimmery lavender shade all over her lid paired with a dark purple winged detail right above it, creating the faux cut crease. To go with it, she added wispy lashes topped with black eyeliner, a rosy nude lipstick, and some bronzer.

Creepy meets chic with Roan’s take on the sultry clown for the “My Kink Is Karma” video. She started with a ghost-white complexion and added a heart-shape using red pigment paired with a red lip. Her frosty blue eyeshadow added a pop of color and she created a doll-eye effect by putting a strip of false lashes underneath her bottom lash line.
