Though the sky outside may be cold and gray, winter is a time to experiment with color and texture in your makeup routine. Think about it: your foundation isn’t sliding down your face like it is during a humid summer day, and there are plenty of parties and activities to get glammed up for. Why not have a little fun and try something new? (Bonus points if it sparkles.)
“Winter beauty for me has always been about embracing a more sultry, moody vibe and making sure my skin is hydrated and glowing,” says Donni Davy, head makeup artist on Euphoria and co-founder of Half Magic Beauty. “Glowing skin is so not just for summer! I love browns and deep reds on the lips, something super shimmery on the eyes, and I think the ‘cold girl’ blush application style is really lovely when paired with faux freckles, especially with a dewy finish on the skin.”
“If you’re going to a holiday party, shopping for gifts, going ice skating, attending a kid’s birthday celebration, a NYE gathering, or just having a festive moment at work, it’s a sin to not have just a tiny bit of fun with your makeup,” Davy says. “You’ll inspire those around you, and I’ve found that a sparkly eye is the perfect conversation starter at social gatherings!”
Ahead, get the scoop on the most fun and festive 2025 winter makeup trends for the holidays and beyond. Snow optional.
Icy Blue Eyeshadow

Pretend you’re an ice queen with an equally icy eye. “Iconic blue eyeshadow continues to get a lot of attention, and what makes it so fun is that it’s insanely flattering and totally changes your whole vibe,” says Davy. “It’s really transformational but you can play with blue in a super subtle way too.”
Davy’s pick is Half Magic’s Sparkle Stik in Cloud Kid; the creamy, longwear eyeshadow crayon glides on and stays on. “It’s so much more sparkly than any other eyeshadow crayon you’ve tried,” says Davy. For a deeper slate color, try Punk Pony. “I love pairing either of the above with a navy blue eyeliner pencil applied in the waterline,” Davy recommends. “Navy blue eyeliner looks amazing on everyone.”
All Berry Everything

KJH Brand
Makeup artist Anne Skubis says berry is a berry good pick for anything on your winter agenda. “I love berry tones and you can find one that suits all skin tones and undertones,” she explains. Her fave palette for berry eyes is Danessa Myricks’ Groundwork Palette in Blooming Romance, as it contains both pomades for use as a base, plus eyeshadows. “I use the shadows alone when I want a more diffused look with less payoff intensity,” she explains. The pans are also removable, so you could create a mini case for travel or parties.
Makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes co-signs berry as the shade of the season. For an “easy and fresh way to get the winter feels,” she recommends applying KJH.brand Soft Smudge Lip & Cheek in Soft Berry on the lips, paired with a matching or slightly darker lip liner. Then, match your blush to your lipstick for a monochromatic moment. “I would wear this honestly to a girls night out, date night or even a wedding. I’d wear it anywhere but I’d add eyeliner in a beautiful rich brown if I was doing something a little more formal,” Hughes says.

Swap your basic black and brown for purple, blue, even cranberry. “If you want to experiment with color but not in an all-over-the-lid eye shadow way, colored mascara is the perfect solution,” says Davy. “You don’t need precision or blending skills, and it doesn’t add any additional steps to your makeup routine, assuming you already wear mascara.” Her pick is Half Magic’s Eyelectric Extreme Lengthening Mascara in the shade Violet Act, calling it “a great entry-way into non-black mascara.” The slightly pearlescent finish keeps lashes looking lush, not chalky. Davy also likes L’Oréal Voluminous Mascara in Cobalt Blue.
Grown-Up Frosted Eyes

“By grown-up I mean chic, non-chunky, highly shimmery ‘glitter’ on the eyelids,” explains Davy. From far away, it looks like a simple, neutral eye, but up close, it’s reminiscent of “a magical veil of diamonds on your eyelids,” she says. “A neutral sparkly eye looks amazing with any makeup look, but particularly fabulous with a bold lip during the holiday season.”
To make your eyes sparkle for parties, weekends, or literally whenever the spirit moves you, try Half Magic’s Glitterpuck Pressed Fairy Dust, which Davy says is “the holiest of holy grail products to achieve an airy or dense sparkle on your eyelids.” It has a water-infused texture that makes the microfine glitter stick to lids and is easy to apply with your fingers or layer with other shadows.
Makeup artist Jonet Williamson is also a fan of the icy, shimmery shadow look when the temp drops. “For a subtle wet look, try using glitter shadows that are less opaque than a traditional metallic shimmer,” she says. “You can usually see individual specks of glitter when you swatch these.” (Her fave sparkles are REM Beauty’s Lustrous Liquid Eyeshadows, Makeup by Mario’s Ethereal Eyes Eyeshadow Palette: Moonlight, and Danessa Myricks’ Lightwork VI Palette.) For a pop of sparkle on a smoky eye, Williamson recommends using your finger to pick up the shadow to avoid fallout; if you prefer to use a brush, mist it with setting spray first.

Speaking of sparkle, it’s time to glow like the shine of the moon on freshly fallen snow. “A glow from within that showcases healthy vibrant skin versus the sunkissed skin of summer,” says Williamson. First, apply a hydrating face cream and SPF, then apply a glowy primer like Milk Makeup Hydro Grip + Glow Primer, followed by a dewy skin tint like MAC’s Strobe Cream. “Lightly set the face with powder in areas where you would naturally get oily, then apply a balmy highlighter to the high points of the face and lock everything in with setting spray,” she says. Her fave highlighter for this lit-up look is KJH’s Hypershine High Lite Kit.

Get that “just off the ski slopes” look with a super-flushed cheek, even if you’re a long way from the snow. “In the winter, I like a rosy, berry shade [for blush],” says makeup artist Alexis Oakley. “I live in Los Angeles, so I really have to fake the look of being out in the snow.” Instead of a bright baby pink, try a richer color like Patrick Ta’s Major Beauty Headlines Double Take Creme & Powder Duo in She’s Wanted or Merit’s Flush Balm in Apres.

Makeup artist Kelli Anne Sewell says a “sexy burgundy lip is the hottest accessory” for winter. “It definitely comes from the fashion world,” she says. Burgundy lips are the easiest entry point, but a plum or wine-hued eyeliner is also gorgeous. Sewell recommends Refy’s Plum Lip Collection, which makes getting your lips prepped for parties or date night so simple. “It gives you a diffused plum lip liner look and a deep gloss to match,” she says.

They’re a must for the holidays and, well, literally anytime, anywhere. “I’m not typically a red lip girl, but the closer to Christmas we get, the more I enjoy embracing it,” says Oakley. “It’s a really great and easy way to elevate any look. I will always pick a cool toned blue red because it makes your teeth look whiter.” Why not try Taylor Swift’s go-to, Pat McGrath’s LiquiLust Legendary Wear Matte Lipstck in Elson 4?
