While many damage repair treatments come in the form of masks or in-shower products, this spray stands out as a post-shower essential, working just like a reliable detangling leave-in conditioner. Our tester, Chelsea, who has fine, wavy hair, often struggles with frizz-fighting products that weigh her strands down and do nothing for her color. But after just one use of this treatment spray, she noticed an immediate difference. Her hair looked shinier, more manageable, and stayed that way throughout the day. Although the brand recommends applying it to damp hair, Chelsea found that it softened, hydrated, and defined her waves beautifully when applied to dry hair, all without leaving behind buildup by the end of the testing period.

Another universal crowd-pleaser, this can do its reparative duties in a mere 60 seconds; its bond-building technology targets the bonds in your hair that need the most help. The formula is also packed with plant butters such as mango and shea butter, making it deeply hydrating. It was an attribute our tester (who specifically noted that her bleached hair needed lots of moisture to keep the ends from snapping) loved. But perhaps the best part? While you can just leave it on for a minute and then rinse it out (it does rinse cleanly, btw), you can alternately use it as a leave-in. Either way, our tester found that it didn’t leave any unwanted residue behind.

Serums are notoriously known for their “silkifying” powers on hair textures of all kinds, and as our tester began to incorporate this serum-based treatment into her hair care routine every three days, she noticed that her hair felt drastically softer and smoother. Even her ends, which she described as damaged and split  before the testing period began, felt stronger.

It may be one of the more expensive damage repair treatments to choose from, but depending on your hair texture, only a dollop-sized amount or a full pump of product is needed. This 6-ounce (and might I add, gorgeous) silhouette of a butter-yellow bottle will last you a while. We also love the ingredients Oribe chose to feature in this formula, such as plant-based protein, chia seed, and bio-fermented bamboo leaf, which focus on the elasticity and overall protection of the hair cuticle.

Contrary to popular belief, hair health starts at the scalp (I, myself, have found this to be true). The Kérastase Genesis Serum Fortifiant Hair Serum provides relief to an itchy and dry scalp, according to our tester, and has a wonderful way of serving as a scalp-care ritual, as its dropper applicator is perfect for targeting specific areas along the crown or nape of the hair shaft (think: scalp massages to end the night right). While it stood out for its lightweight feel on the scalp and soothing attributes, we wouldn’t necessarily rely on this hair serum for maximizing hydration or adding moisture to split ends. We do, however, appreciate its subtle scent, which keeps hair feeling and smelling clean throughout the day, even if you plan on participating in a sweaty workout.

After using this treatment for a month, she noticed a visible improvement in detangling, smoothness, and overall manageability of her grown-out blonde strands. “I’ve been looking for a hair treatment that could fit both my growth and damage,” she shares. While we found ourselves trialing through different application methods when testing this damage repair treatment by Fenty, we discovered its versatility lies in taming flyaways, adding definition to waves and curls, and smoothing the hair with its creamy consistency. Whether you apply it as a leave-in or wash it out after five minutes of application in the shower, the best results depend on whether you have wavy or tight, curly hair.

So, you may need to experiment with different application methods to find the one that works best for you at the start of use. We mention this because, by the end of the testing period, our tester noticed that applying this product as a leave-in conditioner yielded fewer results for her waves than it would have if she had used it as a rinse-out treatment. “It did work as promised (strengthening, repairing damage, smoothing frizz), but it weighed my hair down a bit more than I would have liked,” she mentions. Another standout feature, in particular, was that signature Fenty scent this product has: a floral, fruity, and a touch of musk.

Plus, the product is easy to use—just leave it on for five minutes in the shower—it distributes evenly, rinses cleanly, and only needs to be applied once a week. Our only (minor) gripe? We wish the bottle were slightly bigger so we didn’t have to worry about running out of this miraculous strand saver.

She especially loved how nice it left her curls looking for several days between washes and that it also left them feeling very hydrated. While the bottle is pretty large, she noted that some even bigger sizes would be nice, given that those with curly hair tend to go through a lot of product. However, a little bit of this formula does go a long way.

However, it is worth mentioning that you do need to leave it be for four minutes between application and styling, a practice that takes a little bit of getting used to if you always jump right in with your blow-dryer.

It’s lightweight and easily spreadable, so it won’t take too long; however, if you want to see more impressive results, it’s best to leave it on for as long as possible. Just don’t exceed using it more than once or twice a week; doing so can dry out your hair.
