Passionate Responses Only: What Should You Pack in Your Concert Bag?

The items worth stuffing in your teeny, tiny bag.

The past 12 months have been, indisputably, the year of the concert. Let’s recap, shall we? There was the Chappel-saince, Brat Summer, Tyla’s debut (and eponymous) album, Short ‘n Sweet, our cover star Kelsea Ballerini’s Patterns, The Guts World Tour, and the Eras Tour’s grand finale in Vancouver—to name a few. That’s a lot of icons spilling their hearts, guts, and high notes. And fortunately, the Byrdie editors had the privilege of witnessing it all. From stadium to stadium, we even learned a thing or two about the beauty essentials that can really make the night—like that perfume that smells like a pop star or the highlighter that can rival a strobe light. So ahead, discover the 33 essentials that are worth stuffing into your teeny, tiny concert bag.

For me, nothing can tarnish an evening out like discomfort, so my concert bag is all about function. For starters, I’m never without a Touchland sanitizer, which is particularly useful if someone spills a sticky drink on you. Essentials for unruly bangs—a mini hairbrush and flyaway-taming wand, are my next priority. My roster rounds out with my absolute favorite hydrating lippie (Ole Henriksen’s Pout Preserve Peptide Lip Treatment in Cocoa Creme), a Liquid IV sachet to rehydrate after all of that dancing and screaming, and a mess-free powder compact for mid-set touch-ups.

To me, a perfectly packed concert bag includes a product for every beauty need. I make sure to keep mine stocked with travel-size versions of my favorite essentials. You’ll find a luxe hand sanitizer, the glossiest lip oil, my fragrance for the night, a refreshing facial mist, silky scrunchies, and a rich body butter. Whether I need to moisturize my lips, hydrate my skin, or pull my hair into a bun, my concert bag has me covered the whole night.

As a seasoned concertgoer and dramatic fashion person, I’m always keeping my bag stocked with items to refresh my glam and add extra personality when the mood strikes. Beauty-wise, I prefer to keep my mascara messy, my gloss shiny, my fragrance radiating a dose of cool-girl energy, and my highlighter glowing in the dark. I’m also a huge proponent of sunglasses at the club, which carries into my concert habits—this really came in handy amidst the strobe lights at Charli XCX and Troye Sivan’s Sweat Tour. Finally, a bit of accessorizing via an eye-catching bag charm.

I find it physically impossible to attend a concert without taking dozens of flash photos of myself on my digital camera, which means my bag is stuffed with goodies to make me look Facetuned IRL. Case in point: I never leave the house without my travel-friendly version of the TikTok-approved TirTir cushion foundation, my Starface pimple patches, and my trusty Chanel powder compact—lifesavers for when I inevitably end up in the heart of a mosh pit and my foundation rubs off on a sweaty tween’s crop top. Or my Lumify eye drops, which keep my eyes bright and white for that cheesy part of the concert when everyone starts waving their phone flashlights. As for fragrance, I tend to go for a floral-forward fragrance that cuts through the sweatiness of it all; recently, that’s been Commodity’s irresistibly indulgent Juice fragrance. The finishing touch is the lippie: Topical’s Slick Salve, which is as glossy and minty as a mint gloss can be.

I have always been labeled the “mom” of the group because of how prepared I am on the go. Chances are, if you need something practical (Advil or Band-Aids) or more out of the box (nail polish or glittery eyeshadow), I have it somewhere in my purse. So, when it comes to curating my concert bag, I have a similar mentality. First and foremost, I always make sure I have what I need to do quick touchups. There are endless ways a mini hair brush, setting powder, glittery balm, and lip gloss can revamp a look. Then there are my problem solvers—a claw clip in case my hair tie breaks and a mini perfume to keep things fresh standing in a crowd.
