Experts fill us in.

It might feel a little rebellious to daydream about cooler weather while summer’s still in full swing, but it’s only natural. Fall just has that irresistible pull—apple orchard afternoons, a glass (or two) of mulled wine, All Too Well (10 Minute Version) on repeat—and, of course, the perfect fall manicure to match.
There’s no single “best” fall manicure—the right one is always the look that makes you happiest. Still, trends are very real. Every year, we see autumn staples like earthy neutrals and seasonal motifs (whether that shows up as tiny hand-painted leaves, easy nail stickers, or other nods to the season) make their comeback, but the most exciting styles are the ones that feel fresh and a little unexpected. According to the pros we spoke with, the biggest fall nail trends of 2025 run the gamut from updated neutrals and moody shades to playful patterns and high-shine finishes.
And in case you’re wondering: these nine predictions come from the best of the best. We spoke with celebrity nail artists Britney Tokyo, Mei Kawajiri, and Queenie Nguyen, as well as Evelyn Lim, chief nail educator at MiniLuxe’s Paintbox studio. Ahead, their take on the nine nail trends you’ll be seeing everywhere this fall.
Caramel Latte Nails

“Neutrals are taking over where summer’s sheer pinks left off,” Nguyen declares. “Think mocha mousse, caramel, or café au lait shades; they have that ‘your nails but better’ effect, but with a grounded, autumnal edge.”
Polka Dots

One trend that’s already on our radar—and will stick around for fall—is polka dots. Nguyen says the chicest way to wear them right now is in neutral tones, with Dua Lipa as the inspiration many of us are bringing to the nail salon.
Neutral Auras

Nguyen predicts muted designs will soon be all over your feed. She points to “neutral-toned aura nails” as a covetable fall trend—even if the look technically defeats the purpose of an aura. (It still looks incredibly chic.) If you need one more reason to add them to your mood board, she describes them as “fashion-forward, yet approachable enough for everyday wear.”
Chocolate Brown

The next best thing to sipping hot chocolate on a chilly fall day is a manicure to match. “Deep, chocolate-inspired browns will be a key shade for fall 2025,” Tokyo predicts. “They feel both timeless and modern—sophisticated, grounding, and perfectly aligned with the season’s fashion palette. Rich browns bring an understated elegance to the nails while giving off a polished, refined mood.”
Forrest Tones

“Moody greens are about to have their moment,” Nguyen adds. “Shades like moss or blackened forest green instantly feel cozy and chic, especially when finished with a velvet or matte topcoat. You can reference this trending color at Ferragamo’s Fall 2025 show for inspiration. Design-wise, this translates beautifully into velvet-textured nails, abstract negative space with deep greens, or green chrome French tips.”
Jewel-Toned Chrome

“I’m seeing moody metallics like deep jewel tones like emerald, amethyst, and sapphire, finished with chrome or cat-eye effects,” says Lim. “These shades are rich and perfect for fall, and the reflective finishes add a cool, modern edge that really catches the light.”
Metallic Accents

Paintbox
Want your nails to match your jewelry? You’re right on trend. Lim points to “mixed metals” as a fun way to embrace texture: “Pairing gold and silver accents makes the look feel even more modern and versatile with jewelry.” Biased though she may be, Lim loves the Mixed Metals Press-Ons from Paintbox. “It’s a simple way to elevate an everyday manicure while still keeping it chic and wearable for fall.”
Shorter Lengths

No need to stress about breakage because short nails are quickly becoming the more coveted choice in salons, Kawajiri tells us. They’re practical, chic, and the perfect canvas for fall’s trendiest designs.
Duck Nails

Kawajiri says that while long, pointed shapes like almond, square, and stiletto have “dominated the nail art space for a long time,” she’s noticing the return of duck nails. The throwback, very Y2K style is inspired by a duck’s foot, narrow at the base with tips that flare outward instead of tapering in.
