MAC Brought Back Gabbriette’s Secret to ’90s Concealer Lips

Meet Pro Lip Erase (again).

When I was in middle school, one of my best friends was always rocking a concealer lip. I didn’t love the look back then, but would now like to issue a belated apology to her. Girl, I’m sorry about every time I subtly asked if you wanted to borrow my lip gloss. I did not understand how iconic you were being in the moment.

While concealer lips never went away for good (we have Sofia Richie and Gabbriette to thank for that, partially), MAC has decided its time to bring them back officially. Earlier this month, they relaunched Pro Lip Erase—the balm responsible for so many of those nude Y2K pouts.

The Inspiration

MAC’s decision to bring back Pro Lip Erase has everything to do with the beauty world’s continued embrace of all things nostalgic. They decided to launch it on September 2, right in time for New York Fashion Week—it’s a “cult backstage secret” after all.

Gabbriette might also have a little something to do with the relaunch. Last October, the model shared her ’90s-inspired makeup routine with Vogue France, and included a vintage tub of Lip Erase she bought off eBay. Thankfully, now you can get your hands on her favorite nude lipstick without risking infection.

This time around, the balm is available in 10 artist-curated, flesh-toned shades so you can find something that really matches your skin tone… that’s not your actual concealer.

The Formula

Pro Lip Erase offers full-coverage that feels lightweight (exactly what you want for your lips, when going for this look).

“Pro Lip Erase cancels out natural pigment without drying or caking, making it the perfect invisible lip or neutral base to remix with liner, lipstick, or gloss,” explained the brand in a press release.

With your natural undertone literally erased, you also have a little more room for playing around with color, if you’re more a hot pink Juicy Tubes kind of Y2K girl. There’s room for all of us.
