Key Takeaways

  • Patrick Ta is releasing a new trio of eyeshadow palettes—his first makeup launch since 2024.
  • The Major Dimension Artistry Edit Eyeshadow Palettes each feature six shades you’ll use consistently.

Some things you don’t hear every day, but always hope to: “you just won a million dollars, no strings attached,” “I’m not going to finish these fries, do you want them?,” “Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez reunited,” and “a new Patrick Ta launch is coming.”

Today, at least two of these are true for the first time since 2024. There’s luck in the air, especially for people who know the importance of returning to your go-tos time and time again. (That would be J.Lo and you, neutral shadow fans.)

Keep reading to discover everything there is to know about Patrick Ta’s new Major Dimension Artistry Edit Eyeshadow Palettes—including his inspiration and application tips.

The Inspiration

Ta says his inspiration for the palettes really came from his own kit and the way he works. For what it’s worth, that’s exactly what someone wants to hear from a beloved makeup artist-founded brand.

“Over the years, I’ve found myself reaching for the same few shades again and again—the ones I use to build every look, whether it’s red carpet or everyday glam. I wanted to take that idea and translate it into palettes that felt purposeful, with no “filler” shades, just the ones you’ll truly use and actually hit pan on,” he tells Byrdie exclusively.

With that, he chose to develop three palettes. Each is based on a different skin tone category (you can choose between light, medium, and deep) and features six matte powders, every one an entirely necessary neutral.

“It’s about creating something that’s both timeless and extremely intentional… an artistry edit of the shades I believe everyone needs,” he adds.

The Palettes

Ta says the biggest difference between these palettes and his existing offerings is how streamlined the new edits are.

“My Major Dimension palettes are all about versatility and range. You get shimmers, creams, and mattes that allow you to create endless eye looks,” he explains. “The Artistry Edit palettes are much more focused. They’re all-matte, all-essentials, and pared down to just six shades in each palette for different skin tones.”

The non-drying mattes feature a new formula that Ta describes as buttery soft. That’s thanks to the addition of hyaluronic acid and squalane, which add “a velvety smooth wash on the eye, soft and never chalky.” You’ll also get the brand’s signature blendability and color payoff thanks to their unique pigment-coating process.

“It’s about giving people their everyday, go-to neutrals in one compact edit, rather than overwhelming with non-essential options,” he adds. “I wanted them to be the palettes you actually finish, because every shade has a role and purpose.”

How to Use Them

Though they’re super streamlined, Ta wants the new palettes to feel like tools you can use in multiple ways, for multiple looks. You can use the shades “for something soft and quick or a more defined, sculpted eye.”

Speaking of which…

“For my signature elongated eye, I start by blending a warm tone through the crease with the fluffy end of the Dual-Ended Eyeshadow Brush,” he explains. “Then I diffuse a light shade all over the lid as a base, and use the denser end of the brush to pack a deeper tone into the outer corner for definition. A note to keep in mind, the deepest shade in each palette doubles as a liner, just press it along the outer lash line for extra drama.”

And if you’re rushing out the door and don’t have time for all that elongation?

“For days when you want something fast and the perfect wash of color, just use the fluffy end of the brush to diffuse a single shade across the entire lid,” Ta says. “You can leave it as is, or top it with one of my Major Dimension Eye Illusion Eyeshadow Duos for that scattered sparkle finish.”
