    Over the weekend, it was a bittersweet scene on the grounds of the White House as a jovial Michelle Obama was on hand to receive her final official White House Christmas tree. It was the first stage of FLOTUS\u2019s holiday decorating swan song, and today the fruits of her last labors inside the First Family\u2019s residence have finally been revealed. Once again, Mrs. Obama enlisted the help of event designer Bryan Rafanelli to create environments partially inspired by her Let\u2019s Move! campaign and by her various education initiatives.<\/p>\n

    To say this year\u2019s holiday decorations were deeply personal to the First Lady would be an understatement. Inside the Red and Green Rooms, the embellishments are highlighted with fruits and vegetables to represent the gift of good health. There are also bee ornaments to represent the hive she built on the White House grounds. In the Library, Rafanelli, along with Mrs. Obama, added educational tools like rulers, crayons, and pencils to the decorations. They also incorporated ornaments that spell \u201cgirls\u201d in 12 different languages in honor of FLOTUS\u2019s Let Girls Learn initiative.<\/p>\n

    While last year\u2019s decor paid homage to the First Lady\u2019s fashion obsession by calling on several designers like Carolina Herrera and Duro Olowu to lend their hands to the trimmings, this year it was largely up to Rafanelli to capture the spirit of Mrs. Obama\u2019s most beloved causes. The thoughtful, intimate vibe of this year\u2019s decorations are just as bittersweet as watching that giant tree roll up the White House driveway, but they\u2019ll certainly leave a fond holiday memory post-Obama administration, too.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n
