Nothing says the holidays have arrived quite like a Christmas tree. Decorated with dazzling ornaments, colorful light bulbs, maybe some candy canes or a popcorn garland if we really want to get old school, and topped with a shimmering star, decked-out pines instantly conjure a cheerful spirit. And as much as we may love a traditional fir, sometimes a creative spin on a classic doesn\u2019t hurt. In fact, eight luxury hotels around the world have done just that by asking a variety of designers and artists to put their own take on the holiday symbol. From upside down trees to a contemporary interpretation made out of glass, we take a look at a few incredible spruces, below.<\/p>\n

Claridge\u2019s by Karl Lagerfeld<\/strong>
Leave it to the legend to create an upside down Christmas tree. Claridge\u2019s has had a longstanding tradition of enlisting esteemed fashion designers for its holiday decorations, including the likes of Christopher Bailey, Alber Elbaz, and John Galliano, and this year it tasked Karl Lagerfeld to take on the creative challenge. The hotel\u2019s lobby is decked out with inverted trees, with a 16-foot spruce as the centerpiece. Silver lametta decorations, silver butter-leather feathers, and snowflake ornaments handmade by craftsmen in Germany (Lagerfeld\u2019s country of birth and the location of Chanel\u2019s recent Pre-Fall 2018 show) adorn the tree, which is topped off with a multifaceted mirrored star and hovers above a hand-sewn white Icelandic sheepskin rug meant to emulate snow on the ground.<\/p>\n

The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo by Dolce & Gabbana<\/strong>
For the second year in a row the Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo has teamed up with Dolce & Gabbana for their Lobby Lounge & Bar Christmas tree. Decorated with hand-painted glass baubles depicting floral and fruit motifs and handcrafted pupi<\/em> puppets, there\u2019s a distinct homage to Domenico Dolce\u2019s Sicilian heritage on the 20-foot spruce. The final touch of a shimmering gold garland with the message Best Wishes Domenico & Stefano<\/em> sends you off with some holiday cheer.<\/p>\n

Le Royal Monceau Raffles Paris by Beau&Bien<\/strong>
Lighting sculptor Beau&Bien, led by designer Sylvie Mar\u00e9chal, has put together a special installation made of hand-blown glass and bronze ornaments. Hung from the ceiling, these baubles encircle a minimally decorated tree in the lobby of Le Royal Monceau, one of 10 palace hotels in Paris.<\/p>\n

The Balmoral, a Rocco Forte Hotel by Hamilton & Inches and Patek Philippe<\/strong>
To mark the festive season, the Balmoral has teamed up with Scottish jewelry house Hamilton & Inches and Swiss watchmaker Patek Philippe for a collaboration that comes full circle for the iconic property. The Balmoral has had a longstanding relationship with Hamilton & Inches; they were the ones who created and installed the mechanism for the hotel\u2019s famous clock in 1902, which runs 3 minutes fast to help travelers catch their trains at Waverley Station. The trio of rotating trees pulls inspiration from such history, while also mimicking the movement of Patek Philippe\u2019s magnificent timepieces.<\/p>\n

The Connaught by Tracey Emin<\/strong>
Outside the Connaught in Carols Place stands a 30-foot Norway spruce designed by Tracey Emin. A longtime friend of the hotel, the British artist refers to the Connaught as one of her favorites, and she stayed at the property with her mother before going to Buckingham Palace to receive her CBE. Emin has written a poem dedicated to the hotel and has used neon text, one of her signature mediums, to depict her love letter onto the tree.<\/p>\n

The Upper House by Yabu Pushelberg and Lasvit<\/strong>
Design firm Yabu Pushelberg and glass manufacturer Lasvit collaborated on a lighting collection earlier this year and have now translated it into an illuminated lattice tree for the Upper House in Hong Kong. What\u2019s perhaps even more exceptional than their contemporary interpretation is that, in true spirit-of-giving form, the bespoke piece has been auctioned off to raise money for the Society for AIDS Care.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Hotel de Russie, a Rocco Forte Hotel by Vhernier<\/strong>
Standing tall in the sensational courtyard of Rome\u2019s Hotel de Russie is a 16-foot tree decorated with 400 sparkling gold balloons of varying sizes by Italian jeweler Vhernier. Grab a seat in this private garden enclave (don\u2019t fret, they have heat lamps) and enjoy a tipple as you take in the holiday decor and their beautiful pink facade.<\/p>\n

The London Edition by John Booth<\/strong>
Illustrator, ceramicist, and textile designer John Booth (who has worked with brands such as Fendi and Lou Dalton) has added his vibrant touch to the tree that perches at the London Edition\u2019s Lobby Bar. Each bespoke ceramic ornament, which includes his signature abstract faces, has been hand-painted and glazed for the occasion. For fans of Booth\u2019s artwork, the hotel has partnered with House of Voltaire to sell these creative adornments, with proceeds benefiting the Albert Kennedy Trust, an organization that supports LGBTQ youth affected by homelessness.<\/p>\n
