This year\u2019s holiday season will look unlike any other, but according to makeup extraordinaire Peter Philips, that\u2019s no reason to skip indulging in a touch of glamour above the neck.\u00a0\u201cI don\u2019t think people should let go of makeup,\u201d the\u00a0creative and image director of Christian Dior\u00a0makeup declares on a recent afternoon in Paris, as models Amrit, Assa\u00a0Baradji, and\u00a0Jade Rabarivelo\u2014their complexions adorned with a light-catching glimmer or a sweep of jewel-toned pigment\u2014shine brightly on the set nearby. Rather, he\u00a0continues, \u201cIt\u2019s more about subtle beauty.\u201d<\/p>\n

With light-as-air foundations, shimmering glosses, and quietly chic palettes spread before him,\u00a0Philips has just dreamed up a handful of holiday makeup\u00a0looks for our new socially distanced era. Gone are the perfectly drawn pouts, the out-to-there eyeliner etchings, and the faces seemingly dipped in glitter. Here, instead, is beauty for beauty\u2019s sake: There\u2019s rich, glowing skin; luscious lips; and lids layered with mesmerizing shades of shadows\u2014all topped off with a bit of whimsy, of course. (It is<\/em> still the merrymaking season, after all.) \u201cMakeup\u00a0is\u00a0one of the little pleasures in life,\u201d Philips muses with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye\u2014and who are we to refuse some joy?\u00a0<\/p>\n
