In March this year, we welcomed <\/span>the rise of full bush fashion<\/span><\/a>. From celebrities like <\/span>Julia Fox<\/span><\/a> embracing her hair on the red carpet, to collections such as <\/span>John Galliano\u2019s Margiela haute couture<\/span><\/a> and Kim Shui\u2019s AW25, pubic hair has been slowly building its reputation as one of the year\u2019s hottest accessories. Then, of course, <\/span>Kim Kardashian<\/span><\/a> jumped on the full bush bandwagon, <\/span>launching a Skims merkin<\/span><\/a>, ideal for anyone who regrets getting laser.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, Kerry Taylor Auctions is adding to the trend with its latest offering: <\/span>Leigh Bowery\u2019s<\/span><\/a> 1987\/88 merkin. Made from the crown of an old wig, the legendary performance artist was known to have glued the makeshift merkin to his nether regions, giving the illusion of a woman\u2019s crotch (this also meant that he couldn\u2019t urinate the entire night). It\u2019s due to be sold on Dec 9 as part of Kerry Taylor\u2019s <\/span>Passion for Fashion<\/span><\/em> auction, and it\u2019s not the only item from Bowery\u2019s personal wardrobe going under the hammer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Being sold as a pair along with the merkin will be the artist\u2019s famous \u201cstarfish\u201d hooded crop top, estimated to go for between \u00a38,000 to \u00a312,000. Then there\u2019s the notorious 1986 \u201cAunt Jemima\u201d ensemble, inspired by a woman wearing a checked dress who advertised a pancake mix, expected to reach \u00a315,000 to \u00a320,000. There\u2019s the 1992 \u201cmemento mori\u201d look, including the skull headpiece, which featured on the <\/span>cover of<\/span> Another Man\u2019s<\/span><\/em><\/a>Winter\/Spring 2025 issue, as well as the 1993 \u201cMrs Peanut\u201d outfit and several individual pieces too. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
