Normally, I wouldn’t question the beauty practices of one of the most beautiful women in the world. I mean, sure, I’m a beauty editor. I know a thing or two about skin and makeup and stuff, but if a perpetually radiant, age-defying icon like Jennifer Lopez<\/strong> is incorporating something into her routine, who am I to doubt its effectiveness? But here’s the thing: I just saw J.Lo wearing undereye patches over<\/em> her makeup, and I’m just not sure I can get onboard.<\/p>\n

Lopez shared a video to Instagram on Thursday, October 23, writing in the caption, \u201cWhere you\u2019ll find me in between takes on set \u2026 \ud83d\udc40\u201d\u2014and that’s apparently lounging in the corner of a lakeview bedroom on a very cute, fuzzy chair and ottoman combo. She’s wearing pleated, beige slacks, a striped button-down shirt, and a full face of gorgeous makeup (she is on set, after all). But that’s not all.<\/p>\n

Atop her makeup, the Kiss of the Spider Woman<\/em> star is wearing rose gold undereye patches. ATOP?! This made me stop scrolling in my tracks. So many questions! Why? How? Seriously? Have I been doing this all wrong?<\/p>\n

If you’re anything like me (heaven help you), you use undereye patches when your face is freshly cleansed or, at the very least, not topped with concealer and foundation. The thought of one of those saturated, gooey mini masks over my makeup gives me such<\/em> an ick. Perhaps hydrogel patches (the ones that aren’t soaked in slimy serum) wouldn’t disrupt makeup as much, but it still leaves me wondering if that makeup is a big ol’ barrier between the benefits of the patches and the dry, puffy skin you’re trying to treat.<\/p>\n

So, of course, I asked a dermatologist. \u201cThe ideal scenario is obviously makeup-free to get maximum results, but you are still getting some benefit,\u201d board-certified dermatologist Mona Gohara, MD, tells Allure<\/em>. \u201cI think in the instance of J.Lo, it’s just icing on the pretty darn perfect cake.\u201d No lies detected. It’s nice to know the goodness is still getting through, though I imagine her makeup artist will be called in for touchups before cameras start rolling again.<\/p>\n

I happen to have it on good authority that JLo Beauty is launching hydrogel eye masks next week. Extraordinary coincidence?<\/em> Who’s to say? Rumor has it that the directions indicate to use them on clean, dry skin, but if there’s one thing we know about Jennifer Lopez, she breaks the rules.<\/p>\n

Also, when your name is on the jar, you can do whatever the hell you want with your undereye patches.<\/p>\n
