After <\/span>Donatella Versace<\/span><\/a> announced she was leaving the family business back in March 2025 \u2013 transitioning into a \u201cbrand ambassador\u201d role \u2013 Dario Vitale was announced as her replacement soon after. At the time, Vitale\u2019s pedigree was emphasised as a huge reason as to why he got the job: a former designer director at <\/span>Miu Miu<\/span><\/a>, the Italian designer cut his teeth at <\/span>Dsquared2<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Bottega Veneta<\/span><\/a>, before working with Mrs Prada at Miu Miu for close to 15 years. As well as that, Donatella herself said that she was \u201cthrilled\u201d at Vitale\u2019s appointment, while Versace CEO Emmanuel Gintzburger said that he was \u201ca rare talent, who deeply respects the essence and values of Versace\u201d and \u201cwill bring a new perspective to the brand.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In light of those comments, made a mere nine months ago, today\u2019s news is all the more confounding. <\/span>According to<\/span><\/a>WWD<\/span><\/em>, Versace have confirmed that Vitale will be exiting the brand, and also added that the designer has not been spotted for the past few days at the label\u2019s Milan HQ, despite his usual omnipresence in the office. In a separate statement from Versace, the brand added: \u201cWe would like to sincerely thank Dario for his outstanding contribution to the development of the brand\u2019s creative strategy during this transition period, and we wish him all the very best in his future endeavours.\u201d According to reports, Vitale\u2019s departure was a \u201cmutual decision\u201d and is effective from December 12.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vitale\u2019s sudden exit also follows the Prada Group\u2019s acquisition of Versace for \u00a31.04bn, a deal that closed just two days ago. While nothing has been confirmed from either side, <\/span>WWD<\/span><\/em> has speculatively <\/span>reported<\/span><\/a> that Vitale \u201cwas actually eyeing a future outside of the Prada Group and that this reunion was not part of his plans.\u201d Original speculation suggested that Vitale\u2019s arrival at Versace was the influence of the Prada Group installing one of its own before the merger; however, that seems not to be the case. As Prada Group CEO Andrea Guerra is <\/span>reported<\/span><\/a> to have said, Vitale\u2019s arrival at Versace was not a prelude to the acquisition.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
