Matteo Jorgenson won the world over this summer playing the \u201cloveable nerd\u201d sidekick to Victor Campenaerts in their \u201con the team bus\u201d Instagram vlogs.<\/p>\n

Well, just a few months later, the affable American has gone and offended a whole nation.<\/p>\n

Italian readers, you\u2019d better click away now.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re about to discover what the 26-year-old enjoys as a post-ride meal.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m having gnocchi, and going to put eggs on top. And I\u2019m going to put kimchi in it,\u201d Jorgenson says in a \u201cDay in the Life\u201d video released by team Visma-Lease a Bike.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think in Italy I could be arrested,\u201d he acknowledges.<\/p>\n

And as if Jorgenson\u2019s bowl of fermented cabbage, potato dumplings, and sunny-side eggs isn\u2019t enough to provoke outrage, he slathers it in Sriracha.<\/p>\n

Call it \u201cKorean-Italian fusion,\u201d call it what you like \u2013 it significantly ups the stakes from some of cycling\u2019s recent culinary misdemeanors.<\/p>\n

Mathieu van der Poel\u2019s fondness for ketchup on spaghetti or pineapple on pizza pales in comparison.<\/p>\n

Not even the final shavings of cheese \u2013 presumably Parmesan \u2013 on Jorgenson\u2019s recovery snack will save him from the ire of a nation steeped in culinary tradition.<\/p>\n

Worst of all? The ever-cool Idahoan\u00a0doesn\u2019t even care.<\/p>\n

\u201cEdo\u2019s going to be so pissed,\u201d Jorgenson says, referring to his extremely Italian teammate Edoardo Affini.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is ridiculous. I\u2019m sorry to all the Italians, but this is what I\u2019m eating,\u201d he says, resolute.<\/p>\n

The man\u2019s a monster.<\/p>\n

Culinary sacrilege but nutritionally sound<\/h2>\n

The Italians will be pissed, but Jorgenson\u2019s nutritionist will be stoked.<\/p>\n

Two fried eggs, 100 grams of gnocchi, some kimchi, and a sprinkle of cheese provides 300+ grams of carbs, 20+ grams of protein, a microbiome-pleasing portion of ferments, and some electrolyte-balancing sodium, too.<\/p>\n

Suitably satiated after his lunch, Jorgenson saunters off into downtown Nice for an afternoon French language class.<\/p>\n

He\u2019ll no doubt swing by some hipster cafe for a post-11am cappuccino along the way.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
